What are people paying or otherwise putting up with from dealers these days?

Clearly markup and dealmaking are still a part of vehicle purchasing, but I am curious from other recent new-buyers, what kind of parameters you expected, what you put up with in the end, or even something you had to walk away from.

FWIW posting from NYS but imagine the story does not change too much from state to state these days. Paid MSRP +5% for new TRD offroad. Not stoked about the numbers, but I have wanted it forever, got what I wanted, and did not have to wait weeks or months.

Not sure why people are still paying over MSRP when other manufacturers are running 20% off full size trucks.

toyota seems to be holding back production to keep the supply/demand line steady and selling these for MSRP+ still.

go grab a full size for the exact same price.

There is a sticky with the info.

Paid 2% under MSRP for my LR TRD OR DC M/T. $1000 off last Friday, Same dealer is wanting $5k over for the Pro. Was thinking about getting another pro, but no way will I pay over MRSP. Also my deal was painless no BS what so ever. Was offered a extended warranty, but said no and that was the extent of it.

What you’re missing here is that full size trucks have went up in price significantly. A nicely equipped F-150 that MSRP’d at ~$50k three years ago could be purchased for 10 to even 20% off. (Say $45k)

Today that same truck is now >$60k. Say $63k. At 20% off, you’re talking ~$57k $51k purchase price.

That’s a $12k $6k increase. Edit: If you discount the $50k MSRP by 20%, that difference becomes even larger.

I won’t bore you with more math, but it is very reasonable to argue that a Tacoma at MSRP is still a better deal than 20% off a very inflated full size domestic truck.

    Edit: Math is hard.

I go right to the Chevy or Ford dealer. That won't get you a new Toyota, but when the Toyota dealer doesn't want to sell you a truck at a reasonable price that's what you got to do.

That’s exactly what put me in a 23 Tacoma DCSB 4x Sport with a few options for 42k

I really wanted a Tundra, but really didn’t need a full size truck. The styling of the new tundra was not to my liking. Nor was the 58k sticker shock.

I ended up putting a crapload down on the Tacoma and financed the rest. Mine will be paid off in 14 months

Exactly. We’ll see how the 4th gens look pricing wise, but I would be willing to bet the gap between Tacoma and full size reduces by quite a bit. If that nice Sport was $48k instead of 42, you would have put more thought into that Tundra.

The dealer I purchased from sold to me for about $2500 below MSRP but added about $2500 of anti-theft crap, ceramic paint sealant, etc.. So I paid MSRP.

    You’re quite possibly correct
The two things that really strayed me from the tundra was the fact that I really did not have a need for a truck that big. I just wanted it. And honestly, the styling just turned me off the grill the wheel wells I just couldn’t deal with them.
I am super happy with the Tacoma. My last was in 02 access cab pre-runner love that truck, but it was always a pain getting things in and out of the access cab.

The double cab with a folding seat really makes things nice.

Who knows, I might trade for a 26 or 27 Tacoma. Just a word of advice for those that will be looking at the new Tacoma, the first year model release is always a crapshoot

Forgot to address this I really agree with you. I didn’t pay extra nor was I going to. I could have saved a couple thousand by flying out of state buying the truck driving it back.

So glad I didn’t have to deal that shell game! Luckily in OH dealers don’t add any extra stuff. Obviously you still can get that stuff removed price wise, but not always do able.

I never did before, but with mark ups, dealers refusing to out right sell you a vehicle, and the other hoops Toyota dealers want you to jump through. I've changed my mind. There's also Nissan and Stellantis products.

I'm in the northeast and most places are at MSRP except for TRD pro models.

Stupid to pay a market adjustment right now on a Tacoma. Especially with the new model coming out. With patience and a bit of shopping anyone should be able to buy at MSRP right now.

Currently have a deposit on a stick TRD OR for MSRP.

There are some dealers near my place in the PNW offering $1,000 off MSRP for Tacomas, but they do not have sticks, so I passed.
