He is entertaining. I laughed out loud when he got to his Campbeltown scotch marker and it was empty. The look on his face! Like him, I also find them difficult to obtain. I really like the few I've tried, with Springbank being my favorite. I have 2 bottles of the 10 year squirreled away.

Regarding the Islay scotches - I don't get them. My first bottle was Lag 16 and I didn't get campfire smoke, I got asphalt/road tar and iodine/bandaid. Couldn't finish the drink I poured - it was just awful. I've had other scotches and Japanese that have a bit of brine and smoke and those are delicious (Oban 14, Hakushu 12 or Highland Park 12).

    To each their own!

That video you posted made it evident to me it's a scotch thing. As he used those exact terms repeatedly.

I haven't tried any Scotch yet from Campbeltown. I see a TW near me has a Glen Scotia 15 for $77. From what I've read, I may have to pick it up!

My favorite Scotch so far has been a Macallen 18, and my go-to has been Glenfiddich 14.

Got a surprise sample drop from a buddy of mine. Man, he sent some hitters. I'm still not used to drinking much since taking some time to better my health, so I'm starting with this low proof Japanese whisky.

In Maine for vacation, ask the first store we go into if they have Blantons and dang what do you know.

I know it’s over rated and all that but stoked for my first bottle especially at MSRP.

Try Johnnie Walker Green (a blend! heresy!) or Port Charlotte 10 year.

Lag and Laph have never appealed much to me, but I love those two (also
guilty of enjoying Talisker). More traditional Scotch profile with smoke - and only smoke, no iodine - forward palate.

Edit: Also, the Charlotte is proofed at 100 and I have a sneaking suspicion more Scotches need to do higher proofs.

It's not overrated, it's overhyped. It is exactly what a high quality $60 single barrel should be.

Which is why price tags north of $200 are horse shit.

I will, and have, buy it all day long at MSRP.

Like Scotch, typically lighter in profile than bourbon. Usually Scotch-like proofs in the 80s as well.

Hibiki Harmony and Nikka From The Barrel are can't miss and good places to start.

What’s kind of interesting to me is the relative price inflation between Weller, and Blanton’s.

For example, on a recent Nevada trip I saw worse prices than this for the Weller SR…as much as $110-$120. In the same area, Blanton’s could be had for far less than the $250 price rage in this picture…as low as $110. It makes me wonder what’s causing the Blanton’s prices to be so all over the map, when the Weller seems to be consistently high (we’re talking about states with few or no liquor price controls).

I like blends. My favorites were JW Gold and Green, but that was many years ago. They've since changed the blend and it's still good, just not as good as it used to be. I had a JW Gold 18 a few months ago and it was good, just not good enough for the $. My favorite blends are Harmony and anything from Compass Box (Great Kings st. Artist Blend is my current). Surprisingly Dewars White Label is good, and of course Monkey Shoulder.

Might try Talisker or PC 10 next...

Wish I could find Compass Box around here.

PC10 would be my recommendation to prioritize. That's a special whisky.
