Thats definitely a concern as well. My guy is only about 1.5years old right now, but he’s projected to be ~6’02”. Not quite sure when he’s transition to a balance bike.

Regardless, my bike will need a bike as well. She’s not really into mountain biking, but wants to be included if the kid and I are going. So I’ll probably be looking for a basic medium aluminum hard tail with a 1x.

I'm not holding my breath. It sucks.

I got this during the early months of the pandemic. I sold my Niner Air9 w/ SRAM X0 components and my Engine11 roadie w/ SRAM Red groupset. Both of which I put together myself.

My buddy was killed while riding on PCH in 2014 so I didn't spend much time on the roadie anymore after that and decided that I would "go all out" and buy a nice MTB, by selling two.

It was great while it lasted. I'm just going to assume that I'm not getting the YT back, so I've been researching what to get next.

Do you ride the chameleon for all around bike or for aggressive hardtail stuff?
I can't decide what hardtail I want to upgrade to. I don't plan on riding it too aggressively but want something that could handle the park for the 5x a year I go. The rest is fast flow xc-ish trails.

    What a weekend!

47 miles 6500 feet of climbing 85 degrees...

6hr and 2 mins landing me in 120 out of 166 in men's open Class. It was a real Type 2 fun experience for me.. that climb out of skull valley was a complete pain cave session.

Mostly an all around bike, usually stay out of chunky/rough trails with it. Its also the bike I bring when I visit my parents, they have a pretty tame trail system close by so it keeps stuff like that interesting. Depending on the park though, id probably go with something more aggressive or a full suspension. My gf has talked me out of bringing the Chameleon on bigger trips and im always happy I listened haha.

Nice work man. No doubt that climb out of skull valley is a heart breaker. If you’re a fast guy you’re dying cuz you’re drilling it trying to hang on. If you’re not one of those you’re still dying cuz you’re dying

Solid race and solid accomplishment bro.

That's kind of the answer I was looking for.

@backcountryj I noticed the same bike in your "older " pic. How did you like the chameleon?

The chameleon I have is a generation or two older than the one @Dr. Doom Says has. I like mine a lot for general trail riding, cruising with the fam, or goofing around on tame to intermediate stuff.

The newer/current version has more aggressive geometry. I’d like to ride the new one to see the difference, but I’m pretty happy with the gen I have for the way I use it.

The newer one is good, but theres some great stuff about the previous version. I preferred the slacker seat tube and and shorter chainstays, but I also havent ran this one as a mullet - so that might help get back some of that feeling. The previous gen like @backcountryj has is a great hardtail and I miss having that version at times.

I went with the original Shotgun seat, and paired it with the PRO handle bars. My boy was 3yr when I got it, and he's pretty tall, so height was my main concern. The top tube on my HT is more on the XC side, but still worked out great.
