Very clever of them to wait until now to reveal the upcoming model will be available with 3 pedals. Now I'm actually open to the 4th gen.

    Really really really salient point.

I'd bet on a new engine though. But, dare we hope for DCLB MT? That would really f me over, I'd have a compelling reason to change but it'd be a ton of cash and mod time. Still, could give it a few years and then see where it's at once it all shakes out. This MT fad could wane and that would only be good news for those of us loyalists.

I would have gone with a DCLB MT if it was available when I bought mine, but I don't know if it would be compelling enough for me to go through the time, effort, and money to get one now. If the engine/transmission is a huge upgrade/win and lots of new bells and whistles (I like my tech) on top of the LB, then maybe...

Yeah, my hopes are not real high, but it would be cool if they did something similar to what they did to the R156F over the R155F where they just tweaked a few ratios and improved the synchronizers. I just wish 2nd was a bit shorter, as well as reverse, and then 6th to be a bit taller to pair better with my regear.

I suppose we'll see. To me, it seems unlikely that they'll pair a manual with anything turbo charged or hybrid, which is why i foresee them bringing the 3.5L along for the new gen. But, we really don't know anything and only time will tell.

I also wouldn't be shocked if they brought the 3.5L and then left the transmission exactly as it is. But, clearly they are listening, and if they did listen, then there's no chance they missed the reverse complaints. Doesn't mean they'll fix it, but there's a chance they might address it. Haven't met a single person that likes a tall R.

It would be absolutely awesome if they came out with the DCLB manual, but I highly doubt they will. I'm pretty sure people used to talk about that in the 2nd gen days and they didn't do it there either. If they did, I'd consider swapping. Would need to buy the new truck and move all my crap over, whatever was applicable anyways. Would be nice if they kept the same diffs on the new truck for manual trans so I could move my regeared 3rd member and clamshell over.

Overall, happy with my 3rd gen though, but I'm happy to see the manual option continue on which gives me hope for my next truck, whenever that purchase may happen. My only real complaints on this truck at this point are a few minor things, like wanting a few different trans ratios than I have. Otherwise, I've pretty much got mine where I want it and have no itch to upgrade anything.

Yeah, my worst predicament is a really desirable 4th gen MT. Hoping it's just a parts opportunity as you say and not something which I really want. Too much in this darn 3rd gen right now to consider a move.

I think y'all missing THE most salient point of this 4th gen MT announcement in your hopes...

Will the 4th gen MT shifter be the same thread configuration as the same as the 3rd gen to transfer our custom knobs.

    Priorities peeps....sheesh

There’s no reason they couldn’t do a hybrid with a manual. On the new tundra, the motor sits inline ahead of the transmission.

I wish they'd give a proper reverse lockout. I came from a Golf R and its nice how VW has you push the shifter down as a lockout. No accidentally going into reverse.

Yeah, I actually like R up by 1, but I wish it had a pull-up collar like the latest Jeep 6-Sp or Ford's 7-Sp.

My Frontier put it to the right of 6 which was great as well, and you had to push down to get over there, but I feel like it's safer over by 1. So I actually like it left and up, but I wish it had more of a deterrent than just a high spring rate pushing against you. I like it over by 1 because it's close and you have no chance of going into it on the highway. But definitely a collar actuation or pushing down or something would be better/safer.

Think there's any chance of a crawl gear like the new Broncos?

Edit: Nevermind the Toyota announcement says "six-speed"

Blah....I still have the circumsized baseball looking thing after trying some other knobs. I found it to be the most comfortable. I'd rather them just come up with a better looking one for the new gen and then I wouldn't feel like there is anything to improve. I'm already good with the comfort, just want it to look better. But I'm also fine with how the 3rd gen comes anyways, even if ugly.
