Didn’t read whole thread but I’m selling my oem 4R 17” wheels soon. Went another route. They have 1000 miles on them and are ceramic coated.

You sure about that? You have to look for the problem, they'll go on without a noticeable problem but then you look behind the rear wheels and you see the wheel is not tight up against the drum when the lugs are torqued. There is a chance 23s fixed that but I'd be surprised. Might want to double check that.

Odd. Wonder what changed. Maybe toyota started building the wheel differently to fit the tacoma. I don't see them changing the axle shafts just for that.

These are 17x8.5 and zero offset, and the tires are 265/70-17. (truck is a 2011 SR5) I was looking to get 16's and stay with the stock wheel size, but the salesman said going up one inch made the spokes look less "squashed", or some such. I like the look and the silver-gray coloring wouldn't be bad on your truck, IMO.DSC01760 (2).jpg DSC01762.jpg

King 2.5’s with adjusters from accutune front and rear, 88 rotors rear add a leaf, Camburg X-joint UCA’s, Factory style trd pro 16” wheels with 0 offset, 285/75/16 KO2’s, pro grille, Front bumper viper cut, trd front skid plate, full RCI under skid plates, Cali raised trail sliders, exhaust cut dump, KDMax 10.0 tune
I would go with 16’s! Less rim and more tire / sidewall always looks better!!

17's allow you to do the Powerbrake BBK at some point if that's ever in your sights. I say this specifically because I'm getting 35s mounted on some 16s today and a guy on the shop floor bought my 17" TRD Pro takeoffs on the spot because he was there to have the BBK installed and didn't realize his 16" rims were a no go. ;)

Not sure. McGeorge Toyota verified fitment before I bought them as I heard similar things. The verified they’d fit…. So after having that email just in case I needed to return I bought them and fit perfect.

My truck is a 2023 and I had to bevel the rear axle hubs to clear the OEM 2021+ 4runner wheels.... it took a good bit to get mine to fit(see pic below). I bought my wheels in December of 2022. Wheels have a Dec 6, 2022 date on the boxes.

That's awesome to hear. Glad you didn't have the fitment issue, but that doesn't seem to be the norm. Who installed them? I wonder if your tire store simply handled the mod.

That or maybe didn’t realize there is a problem. I highly doubt that one single truck didn’t have issues….

I've never heard of any kind of mod like that to fit the 17s. Very odd.

I just had the dealer put 17” 4 Runner Pro wheels and tires on my 23 Offroad 4x4. They look like they are tight against the drum. Hard to see in the pic616F5419-3E5F-427C-B77C-4A44F2E1FDDB.jpg

Those aren’t the wheels that cause problems.

Oh thank heavens! All this talk about wheel problems has put me into crisis mode. What a weight off my shoulders. Out of curiosity, which are the problem wheels? Thanks in advance
