Well, the fifth gen tacoma definitely won’t have a manual option. You heard it from me first.

The manual might get a detuned version of what ever engine Toyota bolts to it.

    Won't be a Taco EV.

Hydrogen 5th gen? Most likely. But EV? Nope.

It's realistic. Just don't drive like a pissed off teenager :D

It'll only* have a manual :D (this is 100% not true)

Probably. I doubt the manual will both up to a twin turbo Hybrid. The twin turbo possibly in like the sport or trail hunter trim, but I'm willing to bet the iforce Max Pros will be automatic only. I could also see them doing lower trends with the two seven or some new variation of it with a stick. I would be okay with that. I would be really okay with a four-banger and a stick.

    I could go for a 6spd 4cyl.

Have you not seen the EV concept? H2 is great also, but I believe there are more significant issues there than E. Whatever though. The 3rd Gen will stick around until it is time.

Nope. Hybrids are not my thing. K.I.S. One powertrain to maintain for me.

H2 already works and has far less issues with maintaining supply chain for raw materials.

Not an opinion, this is from Toyota.

    Hybrids have less maintenance. :D

Hybrid would address the two key Tacoma "flaws"

    1. Lack of low end torque
    2. Poor MPG's
A v8 would get one of 'em :)

Yeah. Quite familiar with Toyota's H2 effort. Still, not interested.

The electric infrastructure is there. I know folks with EVs and are quite happy charging on 110v.

I like electric better at this point. I wanted an H2 moon shot in 2008. As far as I care, that boat has sailed for now.

Just the facts: Toyota loves H2. Toyota showed a 4th Gen EV.

I know my choice, based on the total package.

Best guess, a strengthened manual transmission with the iMT rev matching feature.

I actually looked at a 2023 manual last week and although it is not the color I wanted I was going to buy it anyway thinking this would be the last time I could get a manual Tacoma. I am very happy that I did not buy it as I would rather have the updated model. I was pretty disappointed with the sluggish feel of the test drive yet again was willing to overlook it just to have a manual trans.

I get so sick of reading where dealers say the demand for manuals is something like 3% and this is why they never have them in stock. From what I have seen the reason for the low take rate is simply because they never have them to offer. Every single manual that does show up gets taken within a few days. I believe if they simply offered more manuals they would all get gone quickly. I believe the take rate numbers are manipulated to show a very low demand for manuals when in reality there are many who still want the manual.

It is not hard to figure out that Toyota ,for some reason, tries hard to steer customers towards the automatics. The last manual I purchased I had to give up various options that were not available with the manual trans. When building a 2023 nothing had changed as again I found certain key options not available with a manual. I was surprised Toyota chose to continue the manual option however I am now curious if it will be available with all the same options as the automatic.

I've always hated that and it's so blatantly obvious with every manufacturer. No one buys manuals... Because no one will make manuals to be bought. For example, here in the Midwest you cannot get a manual Corolla no matter how hard you try unless you get lucky and someone trades one in or one has been dealership trade hopped from either southeast or all the way out. West. Friend of mine had to fly to California to get her manual Corolla. And it's the apex model which is freaking sweet... Can't get it here in the Midwest. For reasons I guess

Hydrogen. Either compressed gas or fuel cells. Both are still non-starters here, just like E85.

I had to drive 200 miles to get my last manual Tacoma as it was the only one available. The salesman had it parked outside and ready when I arrived. He said three people asked to buy it that day only to be told it was sold. (I put a deposit down over the phone sight unseen) I have been looking for a 2023 and it was just blind luck that the news hit this week of a 2024 manual option. If I had not seen this I would literally have bought a 2023 today. I hesitated on all the previous attempts as the color was not what I wanted. Each time I hesitated they sold within days of arriving. I was determined to jump on the next one I found regardless of the color or options. I am convinced that there is still a huge section of buyers that want a manual yet we just cant find them to buy.

I can not figure this out at all. Why does every dealer want to sale more autos anyway? Do they make more money on autos? Why does Toyota appear to steer customers to the auto more? Does it cost them more to have both options? I just cant figure it out however it is very obvious that both Toyota and the dealers try much harder to move more automatics. Limiting production ,and options, is the easiest way to do this and although this may fool many the long time Toyota fans know that there are still plenty who want a manual.

Toyota tried this crap with the Supra when they released it in automatic only. They figured out quickly that this was a mistake as there were plenty of customers who refused the automatic. Surprise surprise when the manual Supra hit they were all sold before they even hit the lot. Many claim Toyota changed their mind due to the Nissan Z having a manual option. I believe it was due to the die hard Supra fans refusing to buy an automatic.

Toyota steers folks to autos because they get better epa ratings with them by programming low emissions programming into them. Manuals are a hit to that epa score which means they limit themselves to roughly 5% manual. Folks would buy way more manuals than that if they were available, I am convinced…..

    sucks.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
+1 on preferring collars when R is next to 1 (and I prefer having R next to 1 instead of 6). From my experience driving a 2022 Bronco and a 2023 GR86, it's ergonomic and makes more sense as a lockout compared to just a higher spring rate like what BMWs have.

In my opinion it is a bit awkward to use for cars that have R next to 6 though, from my experience driving a 2004 WRX STi and a 2006 Lancer Evolution 9 MR. For that I rather have it push down.
