I’m just so glad the manual is staying. I bought an automatic truck and had it for a year and a half because I was rushed and never found anything decent in my price range for that time. I thought maybe I could get used to it….I absolutely despised it every single day for 32K miles. I got into another manual as soon as I was able.

oh haha that went way over my head. I thought it was like a Toyota product code. I need the subscripts to keep me straight

I just didn't want to type it out. Electricity is the route forward for now.

I agree on sub / super scripts. When we had a Saab, there was a why to superscript 9-3.

yep I agree. Hydrogen has its place as a liquid "battery" option on the power plant scale but only until battery banks can be built and maintained to managed that stored energy instead.

For cars - if it's got to be an automatic, might as well be full electric these days, especially if it's a second car to an ICE Tacoma

A dealership tried to sell me an automatic Tacoma and I just simply stopped contacting them. I'd rather buy a full-size truck over an automatic Tacoma.

I need to drive a Ram 2500 in MT sometime. Curious how different it is.

    Right on.

H2 to households for power could be neat. Or, H2 generation from solar energy? Lots of slow demand options there.

Yeah those are interesting especially them being offered until 2018, several years later than the last time Ford and GM offered manual in their diesel trucks.

    Electrics don't use automatics.

And where are you gonna find one of those?

Former coworker had a V10 2005 2500 with the 5 speed, that was just bonkers

Not available in NA? Or just rare?

Todays news has me down. F. I am not prepared to sell a truck. But how can I sit there and watch a MT float by with gobs of torque and good mpg too? I hope they price it at 80k so I can pretend it doesn’t exist.

For sure, I’m just sad at my long term planning failure here. I don’t have a truck I want to sell :)

Ironically, three of my 4 in the fleet are first year of redesign, though 2016 barely counts and the ‘05 is spartan. I’m definitely already pushing my luck so for sure won’t be making any moves next year. But it does throw me off my game.

    Agree.

Buuut, counterpoint, years and years of guys trying to tune to get back some torque and maybe all we actually had to do was sit on our ass and whine and wait and Toyota would deliver?

I guess we will know the answer in a few months.

Planning never survives first contact. :D

I'm curious about the rest of the 4th Gen details.

The article says "we expect" it to be a modified version of the current. They're just guessing.

Even if they kept the current MT, they'll have to tweak the gear ratios for the new engine. Hopefully they'll have seen the feedback people have given over the years and make appropriate adjustments.

The people who buy MT are enthusiasts and I think there'd be huge backlash if they detuned the engine and gave us less power/torque. I can see maybe not mating it to the hybrid, but at least it should be sold with the normal I4 Turbo that they'll offer. Maybe a non-hybrid HO version if we are lucky.

Toyota has been good in that they still give you the premium options with an MT. I wanted an MT, but still like all the tech, so it is great I was able to get MT + Premium + Tech packages. Give me all the options! (and an MT) The only thing really missing was the push button/remote start and keyless entry. I'll be interested to see if these 4th gen MT still stick to that "due to the CSC" or add it in.

I want to get a fifth wheel camper eventually to tool around the US with my wife after my kids graduate and our out of the house. It makes me want to get run out and secure a Ram 2500 diesel MT while I still can, though I'm sure the markup is already huge on them since they are so rare. It would just sit around for 5-6+ years though, so I'll probably just wait and when the time comes have to settle for an AT.

Any sort of MT news is great! I think everyone had already written them off for 4th gen, so it's ok to get excited and surprised!

Like you I wanted a fully tarted up Tacoma with the 6MT; personally I could care less about the push button start (I'm a troglodyte who prefers a key), but I did notice the autotragic versions of the Tacoma were able to be ordered with a higher end audio system than what you and I have in our trucks. Some say the "better" system isn't actually better, but I'll leave that argument to others.
