I feel like that is a little underpowered and small in stature for you.

Edit: nvm, I see this would be for instructional use, not personal. In that case, go for it.

    Edit: I was wrong.

Wait does it have a clutch though? Or is it the C90 style where its centrifugal and there's no lever, you just roll off the gas to shift then roll back on? So it'd be good to teach shifting gears, but not clutch control. If you're trying to do autoclutch and control I'd say get a manual and throw in a rekluse or something so you can retain the lever but lose the stalling out aspect.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have also debated on not doing the ATV route at all and just putting that money into a couple more bikes.

If I did that, what are your thoughts on the best size, displacement and maker for this?

would love to hear you guys thoughts on what would make a great bike to learn on. In the end I want a couple small bikes for kids to learn on, couple for teens, and I already own a couple KTMs for those who already have time in the seat, and wanna try a bike that is more top shelf.

It has a clutch that works like normal, however it’s not required. You can merely shift with your foot if desired.
Acts like a Rekluse…sort of. I got a few KTMs with Rekluse. Just not setup for beginners is all.

TW200 would be my vote for most beginner learning friendly bike.

Ohhh, yup yup, that angle makes it look like there's no lever. Had to go find a different pic haha

Have any of you guys bought a used bike lately? I bought my Rally used with 600 miles. It was listed at $6999 and I walked out at $7100. I know the MSRP is only $6699, but they wanted $8700 for a new after all the markups.

I just talked to a dealer about a 2019 W800 Cafe listed for $6318. They wanted $7588 OTD and I pay taxes at home since it's an out of state buy. He tried to tell me that b/c it only has 637 miles it's still pretty new. I told him that may be the case, but it's still 4yrs old and there is no way I'm paying $1200 in dealer markup in a used vehicle.

I ended up calling the dealer I bought the Rally from(he actually remembered I'm in AL) and he's keeping an eye out for a W800 Cafe or Z900RS Cafe. That deal was a pleasure with no hidden fees and the owner even called me later asking if I was happy with the bike.

Although it's not a typical "motorcycle"....CT125 Trail might be good for new riders too.

Power and size wouldn't be bad but no clutch. Could be a good starting step to learn balance, throttle, and shifting before moving onto something with a clutch for sure. I wonder if the exhaust being so close to your leg would freak newbies out? I know I've burnt myself on my CT90's exhaust before haha

I vote you go for a bunch of klx110’s or crf110’s and make a pit bike track. Seems like you can’t go wrong and everybody loves racing those. I would come visit

I do love me a TW. They work well on loose surface with those big ass tires. I agree, it would make a nice bike to ride some FSR and trails on. Also not too tall. They are also fairly cheap and require squat for maintenance.

my goal in the end is to have a little of everything. Say one of you guys wanted to give so dual sport riding a shot. I want to have that covered. Maybe even a couple larger bikes like the T7 for someone who wants to join me on a guided tour, or maybe is seasoned and wants to rent one for a day or 2.

Hells yeah, this is for the win! Got to do this regardless. I like the newer KLX as I have posted. Suspension is already dialed in for all kinds of riders…hell I didn’t even crush it to the fender.
However the CRF being fuel injected might take the cake. Not sure how much these little jammers would see use on the regular…my hope is every week. But you know how that goes.

Being that you already own one, what are your thoughts on risers and bars?

Sounds like you need to go to the Small Bore weekend at Barber and throw out some business cards when you get those bikes and track :D

    @Built2Ride

you kinda already know this but anything from the honda/yamaha/kawsaki four stroke trail bike line up is going to be a quality learning bike

I have heard in the past from parents, they are more afraid of two wheel bikes than four wheel bikes... so I say having a 90 and 250 quad would further open up your future clientele

however, knowing both two and four wheel toys... a four wheeler can easily be considered more dangerous than a two wheeled machine so there is that.

any xr/crf ttr klx would be a great safe machine for anyone learning the ropes

I don’t own one yet. Still trying to find a good deal on a KLX110L with the manual transmission. @uurx has a crf110L

tall bars are a must on any 110 if its for a full size person
but for anyone learning, it is not needed

the problem with the 50 and 110 is that you can easily spend 2x the price with upgrades, so for you and i its one thing, for the kids learning its another

imho the klx110L that has the clutch is garbage, its pointless having a clutch if you dont need it

unless you really hop up those motors, then maybe a clutch is fun

but for the backyard riding, its just not needed if you ask me

@Built2Ride if you are going to do quads for learning

i would consider a trx90 and the raptor 90, for the little peoples those are really great learning tools

i owned a trx90 and still regret selling it, its just so much fun for a backyard toy, too much if you ask me
