Anyone have tinnitus and ride? How do you cope with it? It wasn't a problem in the past, I would just put my plugs in and turn my music on, but now when I put the plugs in the ringing in my right ear will flare up and become unbearable for a week or two. Instead of being able to ignore it and only notice it when it's really quiet, it is noticeable all the time. I rode once without plugs to try it out, and it was fine but it was too loud with the exhaust and wind noise. I don't want to cause hearing loss going that route.

I'm considering giving up riding altogether if I can't figure this out, which is really bumming me out because the weather is finally getting to be really nice here. Funny how after my accidents and injuries a sound I can't escape would force me to quit.

Try to hold out and find one private party, I think you'll get the best deal taking the dealership out of the equation. But the one you worked with sounds decent maybe they'll hook you up for the repeat business

    ^ definitely this!

I know what I'm getting into, but I still let it piss me off when dealers try that bullshit  I guess someone will pay without thinking, but I look at it as a toy and not a necessity......... so I can definitely wait for the right one.

I hear you they can be so frustrating... I feel like in the past dealerships would actually be trying to make the sale and not wanting to let you walk out the door. Now (more often than not) they say here is the price if you want it, otherwise go pound sand.

I can't ride with earplugs. I don't like the feel of them in my ears, I don't like the muted ambient sound, they're more of a distraction to me than riding without as I find myself trying to focus harder for sounds than I do paying attention to the road.

I've had mild tinnitus since I was a young'n (similar to how you describe, where I can mostly ignore it unless in a quiet setting), and bad hearing generally. both combined were bad enough to keep me from getting into the navy failing their audiogram multiple times. I haven't found my tinnitus to get any worse since I started riding, I do listen to music on my Cardo on full volume in the helmet. Haven't found my hearing to get much worse either since I started riding, the only times I've noticed my hearing was affected was after very long days of riding, and my ears would feel like I just left a loud concert. Fine the next day.

And before I get y'all riled up, I know I know damage is still happening even if I don't realize or notice it. It's a risk I'm willing to take vs riding with earplugs which I find more distracting.

For what it's worth, neither my previous bike nor my current are quiet. first one being a naked so wind noise was even worse.

EDIT: sweet new avi @FreshOldTaco makes me think I should update mine with something moto centric

I would have been fine with that. This is the listing.....and they wanted $7588 OTD(with me paying taxes once I got back to AL)

The guy tried to sell the fact that it only had 637 miles that it was "still pretty new for a 2019". I told if that may be so, but it's still 4yrs old at this point and used.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
You guys keep an eye out for some pit bikes that are for sale. I am just above Asheville and travel to Atlanta and down to Macon, Ga to visit my folks.

Pit bikes here we come…and a couple small quads.

It's a CRF125BW. For $1500, it's cheap and doesn't look like it'd need too much. I bought my Rally from them. Great experience

Thanks man, reppin my better half as she's really had my back this past year

I see you updated yours - looking good! Track pics are my usual go to, besides looking cool it's a reminder of an awesome riding day.

It's craziness, especially adding fees to a used bike.

When I was shopping for a used FZ-09 I found a 2014 model at a dealer that was listed at nearly MSRP. They tried to tell me I was saving money since I'd be charged freight/shipping on a new one. Ok...that's both obvious and irrelevant, this bike is 8 years old with 10k miles on it

Yeah, I just don't get it. I've been told that's the norm.....but that didn't happen with my Rally. The dealer told me when I first called there was $189 dealer doc fee(and even had the "doc fee additional" on the ad).....so I walked out for $7100 on a $6999 bike.....he even discounted a bit.

Well, I did it. 1,000+ mile ride yesterday, 500+ mile ride today for a total of ~1,525 miles in less than 36 hours for the Iron Butt rides.

Now I'm trying to figure out all the documentation to get everything submitted and hope I can order me a sweet license plate frame.

    Day 1:

    Day 2:

Definitely a grueling ride. I had to battle pouring rain from the beginning (combined with some twisty roads in the dark), cold/freezing temps in the desert in the early mornings and high winds through the desert plains. I thought yesterday would have been rough but it wasn't too bad, and I thought today would be the easy ride but I definitely struggled on the way back. I'm currently sitting in front of my space heater trying to pump heat back into my body.

    10/10 would do again.

By my calculations, if the Navi could sustain a 40 mph average (which is being extremely generous lol), it would still take 25 hours to complete the 1000 miles, and therefore would not qualify for the Iron Butt, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. :D

(but also seriously, thanks, I've been planning this ride for months and had to keep postponing it due to weather, which still ended up kicking my butt but I guess it added to the experience).

Documentation is the key. You need gas receipts for the start, finish, and every gas stop along the way. Each receipt needs to have odo mileage recorded on it. The ideal way is to write your mileage on the receipt and take a photo of it close to your odometer so it can be verified. It's important to document your route and to have receipts from turns or direction changes to prove no shortcuts were taken. If everything is good and you submit it to the IBA you won't be buying that plate backer it'll be part of the certificate package and you'll have earned it! Congrats and welcome to the insanity!

I've told several people that these rides are about the most fun you can have being miserable. I've read somewhere that adventure is adversity tempered by time and I love that statement. You definitely had an adventure and my hat's off to you sir!
