24 hours even with no people in the shop it would be covered again.

Things just settle on any flat surface.

I've always liked them, specifically cause of their flex head. That and it's what I learned to TIG with.

Thing is these are what, 150 amp torches so if you're doing something thick or running multiple beads you definitely want to go water versus air.

I got spoiled by the water cooled Miller TIG setups we had at my last job, but we did a lot of TIG on stainless so anything to keep the torch cool (and your hand).

Liquid cooled allows the torch to stay much smaller for the higher output .

    Yep, that'll do it.

You'll need a whole new torch just for water, a cooler, and remember to never run a water cooled torch without coolant.

Hey guys do you think a tig or Mig welder is better suited for me if I’m only able to work on the driveway outside? Is the gas flow affected by wind the same between the two?

Outdoor turbulence absolutely can ruin a weld as it will cause porosity.

I'd recommend flux core in your case, which is used on a MIG welder.

Ideally stick welding would be best but it's not as forgiving as far as technique goes.

Would it help if I cranked up the gas flow?

It can help, but even indoors (garage door open) you will still take a chance at introducing porosity in your welds which will weaken it severely.

You can opt for dual shield flux if you want to stick with using a gun.

Have you put it to work yet?

You can always use it that one time without coolant.

Sad how often that happens .

Till it gets so hot you need to drop it.

If your a Great Tig welder lots of out of position practice mastered the thumb control .

depends just how much weld you need even with all the extra prep work. If your more comfortable. Save getting more cylinders of different shielding gas as well.

To much gas flow can sometimes be worse creating turbulence blowing the shielding gas away from the joint.

Using Common sense move things out of the wind use screens to divert the wind

Once you have a constant 20 mph wind it gets pretty hard.

I weld all the time outside with my MIG welders. As long as you don't have gusting winds, it's easy to shield your welding with your body, hand or an umbrella if the winds are brisk.

We are talking mig welding, not critical welds that will be dyed and x rayed.

Flux core is great for outside, but if you move inside to close quarters, those BBs really pose a fire hazard. I have no issue with flux core except the fire hazard.

    Almost!

Finishing facility side services (o2, N2, Ar manifolds, electrical services, etc) this week and next. Training starts the 15th ... we will probably figure out how to run it properly sometime around the year 2034.
