I have a fob in the taco, and a key in the weekender. I like each in its respective vehicle. There’s something satisfying about dropping into sport seats, depressing the third pedal, and left handing a manual key that results in a very rewarding aural experience. In my taco, it’s all business so hop in and push the button. I like it.

So there’s a place for each in my home.

If your engine dies you still have normal hydraulic service brakes. Engine dying doesn't equal electrical shutoff, so an electronic booster would still have full power assist (as I found out on the trail on several occasions). On a vacuum booster without power assist, the service brakes still have more authority than a cable-operated handbrake.

I had the OEM wheel cylinder blow out on two occasions. There's a warning on the dash. The remaining circuit provides powered braking for 3-4 city blocks before the reservoir gets too low, more than enough to pull over to either wait for a tow or do repairs. Driving home on the handbrake may have been halfway dodgy on a Tercel; on a 5000-lb truck it doesn't have enough stopping power from normal street speeds.

After recent experience with the 4Runner's piece of shit parking brake, I distrust mechanical parking brakes equally :) If you have concerns, just put the transmission selector in neutral, engage the parking brake, let the truck's weight shift onto the parking brake, then move the selector to park.

I think Pro will be hybrid only like the tundra and that the 2.4 turbo will be the only engine mated to manual

nah man, random internet people that have been around the block a time or two are the first to think about all these antiquated and rare occurrences that happened in 1979 so they shouldn't be implementing this technology that these fancy shmancy technonerds have only read about in an engineering textbook in college!

The dealer accessory pedals will likely never return. The factory sport pedals never left.

Does the new Tundra have the stop/start? I hate when I am beside rigs that do that. There is no way that is better for anything

Are you referring to the idle shut off? I had a long Hyundai Tucson rental that started having a slight rattle on start up after only a month of using it. It seemed related to the constant start and stop. I think you can turn that function off in most cars. Does the Tundra have a manual shut off?
