Yeah I think we fill up our vacuum at least once every day with fur just from the living room where he sleeps at night, it's crazy. It's starting to slow down a bit though, you can tell his fur is much more suited to the warmer weather we're getting which is good. I can't imagine how miserable he'd be with all that fur still on him when summer hits here on the west coast.

We had a lot of rain and snow this winter and I've never seen a dog so happy as he was when I let him out of the truck and he realized there was snow on the ground, it was like he was in heaven. Kept shoving his entire body underneath it to try and find small animals. Speaking of which, he's already killed/eaten 2 possums (one baby) and a parrot in our neighborhood

He's afraid of our cats though haha

anybody have experience to stop a puppy from eating her poo? she only eats hers. she was the runt, and i think she didnt get into the food bowl with the others, so she resorted to eating what ever was available.

even minutes after she eats a meal, if she poops and it isnt pick up right away/shoo her away, she will go back to it within like 15 secs and eat like 4-6 inches of it.

we are trying no poo chews and sprinkle of Accent on her food. she eats a mix of kibble and freshpet and brown rice with veggies. the kibble she's been eating is the same that she was eating before we got her.
i started changing her kibble (different brand) this morning, in theory that her poo won't smell like what she liked to eat...

    It's got a name. Coprophagia.

The best way is to remove the poop immediately. Make potty time more controlled, leashed at all times. Take the dog outside on a leash and let the pee and poo commence. As soon as your pup fires a torpedo, pick it up. At the same time, you probably also want to teach "leave it". The causes are varied but often, it's believed to be related to diet and missing vitamins. You might supplement your dog's diet with a probiotic like Fortiflora (it comes in powder and edible tablets). Or change to something more balanced.

It might also be best to work on crate & potty training too.

    Yeah.
No luck with our rescue. Lots of theories out there about why they do it, and the reason may be different for different dogs. We tried the chews and meat tenderizer on the food, didn't phase him. Getting him away from it quickly works the best.

Don't worry. They stop eating after a year or so.

This is true. But you don’t want your dog eating turds. Theirs or others. :D It can lead to worms or spread of disease.

Went camping out here in Socal, was pretty warm (low 80s) during the day up at 6k feet but we still found some patches of snow left on the ground. Nothing happier than a husky in the snow, he went wild digging holes and sprinting back and forth until he basically collapsed in one of the holes he dug lol

We had an issue with Dex (husky above) a few weeks back where he was gettin really lethargic, not eating much and having bad diarrhea. Took him the vet and they said it was mild pancreatitis and stomach upset, gave him a few meds and he was OK after a week or so.

But they said it was likely something he was eating, come to find out the squirrels have been picking avocados from the neighbors tree and eating them in the big oak tree that hangs over our yard. They drop the half eaten ones right into our backyard and Dex gobbles them up. Avocados are apparently really bad for dogs because they are so high in fat, can cause pancreatitis and all the other issues he was having.

So now I have scour the yard every morning for avocados because despite them being bad for him, he eats them like they are dog treats

And no puppy kisses from poo-poo mouths.

Had the same problem with cherries. F'n squirrels drop all the half eaten cherries, Dusty would gobble them up and get really bad explosive diarrhea that stank to high heaven. And you know those bastard squirrels do it on purpose!

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Tessa did that early on when we got her. She was leashed for potty training. I checked with the vet and they said she would out grow it. I began letting her get a sniff when she was done, and then led her away from it. After a day or two, she would sniff and walk away on her own.

Momma licks to entice the pup to potty then cleans it up. At some point, mom stops doing that and they just stop & drop.

Same approach I took with my Buckshot... caught him right away and was able to train him out of the behavior pretty quickly... takes vigilance and consistency (like training for all behaviors)

    Yeah.
Tell that to my ~13 yo dumb ass pound rescue. We've had him since he was maybe 2. He's super sweet, not a mean bone in his body, but he is not very bright. He's never learned or stopped. He's going blind now, and he's a Brussels Griffon with a short nose, so finding any poo to eat unless he just dropped it is a bit tough for him now.

Some people say that they do it if they live in overcrowded conditions to keep their space clean. Others say they do it to protect themselves from other predators by removing the evidence of their presence. And others say they do it because they are missing some kind of nutrient in their diet (this one is the hardest for me to believe -- nothing coming out has more than what went in).

Anyway, I'm just glad he's not a kisser, 'cause that ain't happening.

This is the dummy in question. Tell me you see something intelligent in there somewhere (we love him anyway).
