To start with, if you're just tasting, you don't drink three whole glasses. But I'm with you in much of that. I refused to drink anything but beer, maybe an occasional glass of wine, for most of the last 30 years. Then last year, I decided to give whiskey a try again. After all, I live in the heart of the best whiskey country in America. I'm still largely a social drinker, but I'm on a mission to find what I like best of the many varieties out there. I quickly discovered part of why I quit drinking whiskey in my 20s was cheap whiskey sucks, but that's all I could afford back then. Now I try to pick better quality whiskeys. I still don't have a big budget, but I'll hoard my pennies to buy a couple of good bottles whenever I can. The cheapest thing I bought was the Famous Grouse, and that was just for the connection to ol' WEB Griffin. I'm mostly focused on the $35-65 range. I think drinking one good bottle of whiskey is worth forgoing 2 or 3 bottles of Jack or Jim. I'll leave those for folks to use as a mixer. I'm after a good smooth bottle I can sip on all night around a fire with friends.

lol I've the big ice balls and triangular standard cubes from my freezer.

my kids use the balls more then i do, got the molds as a gift from the wife. my kids think they are awesome and not uncommon to see a giant ball in my kids' cups. they suck are refilling my molds though.

so in staying in the vein of the thread...

always used to keep my whiskey in the fridge so didnt need ice. then over the years & kids that became a not doable thing. then i quit drinking for many years (health). the icer thing was kind of a cool thing & ties back into my other job (gun building).

all this fancy tasting stuff is just for fun with the young guys.

cheap whiskeys are just that. JD,JB,EW,ET & all those others that ruined my liver in my youth? nah wont touch that stuff anymore.

it seems that once i had my stomach pumped from a particular alcohol.... i could never drink that one again. so those previous listed 4 are all out. :)

bird dog peach is the cheapest thing i drink now. then wild turkey & crown.

another guy brought me some red stag cherry something that i thought was pretty good.

Just a quick update on the WTF glasses. We should start running them on our laser this coming Monday. After that we will get them packaged up and shipped out.

Cruised through my locals today as they often get Thursday whiskey drops.

    Was not disappointed.

As the label says, single barrel barrel strength. 4R SiB is very good. This stuff is a couple notches further up on the dial. I do not pass on it, ever. Auto-buy.

They're (I think) only available as store picks. I have never seen a non-pick release.

    OBSQ aged 11 years.

There were more available, but I'm overburdened with good whiskey. I still have 2x OBSV 9y10mo from a pick done last fall. No need to shelf clear.

You do realize this is the regular 100 proof, correct?

Don't get me wrong - excellent bottle. I haven't had one I didn't like. Just not the same as the barrel strength.

I see Four Roses at Costco. How does it compare to let's say regular J.D or Gentleman Jack?
