Interesting..."pop" is the common term used in the midwest (lower 48). I never used it until I met my wife; she's from Iowa. I use it now consistently.

I guess that makes my question: Do you know if the term "pop" originated in Canada and migrated south, or vice versa?

Also, is it used all across Canada, or is it different in the Eastern provinces?

Hope OZ isn't watching because this is not a question and I'm not a Canadian with the answer :D

I think it's a northern/southern thing. It appears that in Canada and the northern U.S. it is pop.

In the southern U.S. it's soda. Just an observation I have made through travels to other parts of the country.

No one in the north ever ever said pop. Maybe in cleveland, but they tend to say "ya'all" too.
Boston they say tonic... south east they say coke, mid west they say pop.. but even then, its mostly just those in the cultural meccas and hicks.

Disclaimer: This is not in the form of a question.

Sorry, you're wrong. I have family that has lived in Georgia, NC, Texas and Florida. Traveled throughout the South.

I was laughed at for using the term "pop" instead of soda. Coke is coke. What's a 7up. A coke?

Ya'all is PURE southern dialect. I have NEVER heard ya'll anywhere north of the carolinas.

    And you're in Hawaii?

    OYG...

WOAH.. seriously incensed and spun up. You're wrong wrong wrong.

If you say pop in union town, its because it's freaking ohio. I have lived in all of those states for no less than a year each and been infuriated by their backwardsness.
