I’m back and forth on it. While it does cook all of the wings evenly, I could get higher temps banking the coals because a whole chimney of charcoal won’t fit under it. Depends on what side of the bed I wake up on, I suppose

What size do you have? I’m guessing for the 22? The BBQ board I’m on, people say they get it rip roaring hot and they are cooking with 22” kettle. Also, what kind of coal are you using? I don’t have a vortex, I just use my slow n sear.

    But those wings look excellent!

Thanks! 22 is correct. I’ve used all kinds of charcoal and I don’t cook until it’s all red hot. I understand the physics of the vortex and the rounded lid, but more oxygen touching more surface area means hotter fire. Both methods serve there purpose and I flip flop, so no judgment to anyone that prefers one over the other.

As long as you don’t use “BBQ” as a verb for grilling burgers and hot dogs, you’re ok in my book.

Are your vents fully open? I’m sure they are, and I agree. Even with the SnS, when I go to sear I open everything up to get air flow going and temps up.

But, like you ay, it’s a flip flop…do I get it….do I not when I think about the vortex! :)

Let’s just cook and eat and be merry! Ha

Not what I had in mind when the wife asked me to split cheeks for Cinco de Mayo, but here we are.

I was hoping to do a brisket or pulled pork this weekend but we are throwing a college graduation party at our place for my cousin and Mrs said burgers, dogs and smoked sausages. Think it might be time to get the BlackStone put together so I can run some of it on that also.

I'm sure you can get that together and do a test run for Cinco de Mayo!
