Hey guys, this is my last ditch effort in trying to understand what’s going on.

I have a 2021 Tacoma, I am not a mechanic, I don’t do much outside of changing oil, brakes, and tires.

I have been experiencing a noise that I have attached this this thread that I took to Toyota while I was on the back end of my warranty, they said they couldn’t replicate the issue and “we can’t just throw parts at it”, so I decided to take a video of it happening, and took it back to Toyota, they said the same thing, and had the balls to say, but we can change your wiper blades.

I get that the issue is an intermittent issue, but damn, how many 3rd gen tacomas do you guys deal with, you can’t pintoint what the issue is? It makes no sense to me.

If anyone could tell me what this issue is, I would greatly appreciate it.

    thank you for your time,

If I had to put money on something - I'd bet it's a body mount.
That said, if I could just diagnose NVH issues from people's imgur videos, I'd probably be a work-from-home millionaire.

No, I get it, but ideas as to what it could be is better than telling me there is no issue, but your wipers need to be replaced.

    thank you for your response.

If that is a squeak I hear over all the wind noise. It sounds like the cab mount bushings at the core support. I have replaced about 12 sets of them over the last two years.

Maybe take it to another dealer - is it still under warranty? Could also contact corporate.

Another vote for cab body mount. That sounds exactly like the one did in my FJ 80.

It’s sort of sounds like you have a clown tied up in the back trying to escape.

In my unqualified opinion it's the steering rack or the upper control arms. It's hard to say and the wind makes it hard to listen closely. Maybe you can take another video with a go pro or something?
2 bits of advice: Try to isolate the sound to a specific movement. Does it only happen in forward/reverse, how about turning left/right, what about if you shake the truck?
2nd piece: I'd suggest going to a different dealership or either get the rep who told you that to put it into writing OR speak to his manager.
Start climbing the ladder. Squeaky wheel gets the lube or however that saying goes

No, it’s 4,000 outside of warranty, when I first addressed the issue, I was 1,000 miles away from my 36,000, so I was within warranty.

    Exactly.

    No it’s not.

Thanks for the advice, I just hate being the asshole, in the second video attached, there is very little wind noise and the truck isn’t even on, it’s my wife and I simply just stepping out of the truck.
    Ha, yes.

The second video makes it sound like a spring though. Sounds totally different to me. I didn't even realize there were two videos at first. Plus your wife's moan is a bit distracting.

I was going to guess wheel bearings if on level road still makes noise idk how they couldn’t find it, likely deaf from the air tools and weekend firing range visits… Only 13k on mine but it does make a strut/shock squeak when just my 180 lb ass gets in, had Honda do same thing years ago but had to be over speed bumps or road dips

Body mounts can make that sound if/when they go bad. You essentially have the cab wiggling about on the frame.

    Her moan has that effect…

I would love to take a video on the windless day, however it’s not currently making the noise.

On a side note, I haven’t been a part of any forums since the early 2000’s, you guys level of support is astounding, even if you’re just guessing, I appreciate it. Makes me miss forums.

you could wait for the noise to be there - apply some grease (spray grease) and see if it goes away...i bet it does go away when you "hit the right spot" (sorry still distracted, i kid, i kid)...but that should be short lived (until it rains). I would have to say that the noise is gone today - possible fluctuation with humidity - points to the body mount also (or a spring) but it should be easy to rule each of these out or find the culprit.

While annoying its a non-issue, could be a million different things, could be coil rub, could be UCA bushings, could be body mounts, could be anything.

Don’t know if you live in the rust belt like me, but I had random squeaks, etc until I sprayed the underside with WoolWax. It might be worth a shot and you get the added rust preventative. It really quiets the leaf springs and lasts a long time. Hope you get it sorted.
