Wrong on both of those claims, pal. How often have you used those jerry cans?

That truck is a hell of a paperweight for "rough roads", especially those street tires

You know those mallcrawler comments were coming because you know you're a mallcrawler.

I think this is my favorite non-bumper spare solutions so far! I like the orientation and how clean it looks, all while still allowing you to see out the rear window. I have an Alu-Cab Contour canopy on order that this idea would be perfect for. Were the anchor points a PITA? It looks clean how the tracts fit between the ribs of the bed and not on top, preserving as much of a surrounding flat surface as possible.

Yup, retaining some visibility was one of my considerations as well. I've got the side Al windoors so blocking the over the shoulder view didn't matter at all and I still have a pretty good view out the rear view. The rack uses the front 2 bed mounts and the rear is mounted on L-track. With the tie downs removed the l-track is flush with the ribs in the bed. They collect some junk but clean out pretty easily. Installing them was a bit tedious, lots of ribbing under the bed so lining them up took some time. Also had to slightly bevel them to sit flush.

Additionally I ran a bead of sikaflex under the l-track to seal the holes, stop ingress of dirt and water under the track, and to help secure it to the bed so the track wasn't only relying the mounting bolts for support.

Yeah it’s quite the wait. I decided to get a front bumper before the rear so funds are low. So until I can afford the brute force I decided to make a cheap knockoff high clearance while I save up for the real deal

OK everyone I really appreciate all your help and insight on this. I have several to choose from, and I will just find out who has the best customer service and wit time. I definitely like the ones with tables as it will make setting up camp much better. I’m going to go ahead and back out of this thread and sign out. I think I’ve started a handful of threads on this forum since I joined a couple years ago, and ABSOLUTELY EVERY one of them get ruined by guys like the last couple of guys. It’s not a very fun forum to come to. It’s a shame because there’s so many helpful people here. Please know that I am grateful to those who had positive input and weren’t trolling. Have a great weekend.

Its near the rear passenger corner of the bumper at the frame/crossbar area. Sorry but for now this is all I have for pics. My truck is still in the shop otherwise I'd just go take a new one.

The thread was doing really great until you came in and dropped insults. But like I said it’s typical here. Although this time it was only two of you and that’s saying something. In past threads I’ve started people like you usually start trolling on the first page. Now the reason why I was boasting was because I returning the favor of being a jerk and I regret doing that. It was stupid and prideful. Not prideful because of my blessed circumstances but because about feeling the necessity to retaliate. Retaliation is pointless and prideful, and at the end of the day it accomplishes nothing, except for a very brief moment of satisfaction that immediately disappears faster than it arrived leaving an even bigger hole than the one that caused the desire to retaliate. So I apologize. To everyone and even to you who I feel caused the thread to be derailed to begin with.

So I talked to Billy last night with Brute Force. What a cool guy man. Really down to earth. Just like you said his prices are way more than reasonable. I think he’s the one I’m going to go with. I don’t mind waiting. Hunting season doesn’t start until November. Besides, I’m not replacing my 33’s for another 10,000 miles or so so I have time. Thank you for the lead once again. His type of customer service was exactly what I was looking for.

I have a dual swing from Mobtown (out of business now) and I'm happy with it. But... I want to have it as an option. I have 35's but run a 33 spare. The 33 will fit under the bed in the stock location with a little modification and I like the idea of having 2 spares for DV or long trips. But the swing is a little bit of hassle, adds a lot of weight and it does put your weight up higher. Mine adds 18" to the length of the truck which makes it a little harder to fit in the garage. Another consideration is the additional weight, it's substantial. If you don't go HC it wouldn't be as much but it's still a lot of weight.

I'm going to run my spare underneath and I have some new gas cans that will fit under my Diamondback cover. Will need to find a spot for the license plate, maybe on the tailgate since I pull a offroad trailer some of the time. If I were to do it again and didn't carry gas, or want a second spare, I wouldn't go with a swingout.

Also, if you decide on a full width swingout I would definitely go with a dual swing. I had a single full width and it required so much extra space and was a real pita in general, more so if you were on any kind of side hill or incline.

    This is good feedback.

I think it's far too easy to get carried away modding our vehicles and we don't always weight the tradeoffs. I went full potato on a 3rd gen 4Runner build. But it starts out as a fun slippery slope. Hey... 35" tires are cool. Now I need to tub... Gotta put the spare somewhere... And now I don't have any wheel well liners so I'm going to need a snorkel...I will say that my rear swing out bumper has saved my vehicle from being totaled at least once though, so there's that. Hahaha.. Often, one mod necessitates one or two more. Pretty soon, we are driving a light, up-armored version of our vehicle down the road with the same engine designed around OEM weights. Also, having a 35 hang off a rear swing will also begin to shake when driving down the interstate. That gets old.

I try to pump the brakes a bit with my Tacoma build. I don't NEED 35's. And if I did, I think the front facing bed mounted option like what @Tahoereeves posted is what I'd go for just to keep things light and simple. I'm getting an Alu-Cab Contour, so most of the stuff that people hang on the outside, I can find a home for inside.

yeah Billy is a cool guy. He gets really busy but if you call him a little later in the afternoon he will pick up. Love his rear bumper swing out with those side tubes that has saved me from crashing my bed side. Also you can fit 37” tires that’s why I went with him.

I'm in the same situation you are. I don't have 35's (would like to) and probably won't. I just hate the under bed mount because it sucks if you're off road when you need it and I've had that happen. And I had mine replaced under warranty for failure to function so, I don't really trust it. But I also hate it in the bed. Even with a long bed the tire and my 4wd box and camping gear is REALLy full. And then, Tahoereeves said, "bumper approaches 275 pounds + 90 pound tire" and holy shit...that's a lot of weight way out on the end! After reading all of this and, I enjoyed most of it except the doouchebaggery parts, I think upright, flat against the cab end is the way to go for me.

I was hell bent on buying a full on swing out bumper this week…but after this thread, I really had to think it over. I have a Rover with 35’s and the 33’s on my Taco are just fine. Just too much stress on the components. I’m going to modify under the bed mounts and stick the spare there, even though it’s not ideal. I may change my mind and go flat against the cab as well (I have a cap), but that interferes with my water tank location. Projects still to go, DRT rear hangers, DRT cab mount relocation, and Nitro 4:88’s….man it never ends when uncle Taco gets the hook in ya.

Anyone make a mount where the tire mounts inside the bed, upright, flat against the bed wall at the rear of the cab?
