How do you measure the LEVELness of a truck?

With many using 5100s and lift kits, etc

and hearing how a truck sits nose high, or back end high,

I was just wondering how people actually determine

how level their truck sits.

weather using measurements, actual levels, just eye-ball it.

Just wondering? I measured the flat part of the frame.

I read somewhere to measure from the bottom of the rim to the bottom of the fender well. Not ground to fender. So that's what I do.

The reason I gave you the measurements at stock in the other thread was so you could answer your own question. If the truck sits "level" when new (without rear leaf TSB), then you can measure the height of the rear fender and front fender to see about how much the rear sits higher than the front at stock (I'll post the link again for those reading this but didn't read the previous thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...height-front-back-difference.html#post2846362). Now whenever making a change, you'll know you're sitting level if the rear is still sitting an inch higher than the front.

 

I agree with this. I just eyeball it.

 

Measure all you want, if it doesn't look right, it doesn't matter what the measurement is. I think 'level' when measured looks nose high. Others would disagree with this.

 

this is a general question im asking,

I dont think the truck sits level when NEW.

( hense why they make LEVELING kits )

so having the measurments when new is of no help.

P.S. how can i answer my own question, when the question

is looking for the response of others.

I see your point, sorry. I think most people are eyeballing it (basically a visual WAG). While I have the measurements, I personally eyeball it. And I do this in other places too. You should see my Northern California Tacoma sticker on my rear window. I "eyeballed" it, so it tilts down on the right.

 

Down here we just stick a lawn chair sideways in the bed. If the dip runs out both sides of the mouth equally. She's level!

How about a carpenter's level on the bed rails?

 

You can measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame on the flat part between the wheels. When it's level there it's trully level but it will look nose high from the side especially the sport because of the shape and your use to seeing the back higher.

 

i have thought of this also.

you would think the design of the bed should have them level to ground

 

this is how i gauged how level my truck is

and believe this would give you the best level indication of the truck.
