Sounds like a good deal to me.

I test drove a MT 2WD 2012 SC 2.7 with 75k on it in July of 2022 and they wanted 20k.
    It sold quickly.

Yes I believe it was. And manual transmission Tacomas seem to have a very brief time being for sale.

I would have guessed maybe $17k-$18k for that 2012, but if it sold that quickly I guess I underestimated.
I'd just keep looking and often. Like you said a Tacoma like that sold quickly.

Twenty years ago when shopping for vehicles I'd pick up weekly flyers in stores. It's nice we can now look
to see what's available instantly online - and set up email alerts for certain vehicles,

    negative.

OP, expect to make 1-2 repairs a year.

    AC compressor
    Alternator
    P/S rack
    LCAs
Body/radiator bushings/all the other plastic goodies.
    Clockspring
    A/c blower motor, etc.

All things I’ve needed to replace before 155k.

That’s in addition to the standard maintenance items including diffs and trans fluid changes.

The newer second gens are some of the most reliable trucks ever built. I don't believe the 2014 had any catastrophic issues. 05's had a design flaw in the head gasket but Toyota made a design change after that.

Just backing everyone else up, regular maintenance and fix whatever you break from abuse. The truck is worth hanging on to for a long time.

I just had to convince my friend that keeping his 05 dodge on the road was a complete waste of time and money... Some make/model/year of vehicles are excellent for longevity and some are crap. I told my step daughter and her grandmother NOT to buy a 2014 Altima as people are always bringing them to me because the tranny has failed and i tell them every time, that it's not worth the price of the used tranny or my labor.

Your new taco will probably be on the road until we aren't allowed to use gasoline anymore. LMFAO

Maybe your truck was assembled on a Monday?

My 05 has 200k on completely original a/c, I've never even charged it. Toyota a/c systems usually only leak because of a collision or something hitting a line and causing a leak.

I've never even had one customer in a Toyota need an ac charge (except the wrecked ones)

You do have a very good point, older vehicles will definitely start needing more intricate maintenance as they age.
But if you are the mechanic, it's definitely cheaper to replace parts than have a loan payment.

July 2022..sold quickly. One owner local. East TN looked to be well kept.
I really wanted this one but it was way over my budget for a 16 year old kid.

I did make an offer but it was already sold the next day.

I hear ya, when I was 17 I bought my first car for $395! But that was in the 70s. That Tacoma did look to be in great shape.
Interesting the layout of the cupholders is different than mine, maybe due to differences with the standard cab and access cabs.

I had a relatively maintenance free Ford mustang for 150k miles. It’s a bit a of crap shoot.

You are definitely right that it’s almost always cheaper to maintain an older vehicle. It comes with a trade off in convenience and headaches.

In general, if you are going to buy/keep a high mileage vehicle long term you need to plan on and budget for 1 - 2 relatively major repairs per year. I aim for 1- 3 new car payments worth in my budget.

Yep, the money i have saved from having no loan payment, is enough for me to buy a used low mileage engine, if need be.

Gotta chime in here. I bought a 2015 4x4 base dcsb after totalling my new 19 ford escape eco boom. Started at 72044 miles. Have only replaced a VSV due to a rolled seal. I absolutely won't be buying another truck any time soon. The 4.0L is a rock. Definitely change the fluids at recommended times and look under it for rust. Mine has very minor frame rust that is being taken care of. When I had it inspected, my mechanic tried to buy it off me. Just love this truck and it will love you back plain and simple.

Ya know it’s funny I stumbled across this thread today.

with the 4th gen being unveiled, I was telling my wife that my next truck will be my “until the wheels fall off truck”, and after seeing the 4th gen tacos, I’m realizing that next truck is likely a low mileage used 3rd gen.

but at dinner we struck a convo and she said maybe this taco is my “until the wheels fall off” truck. I’m not saying it will be, but I’m realizing I love this truck enough to keep it around longer than I anticipated.

I bought it used at 157k miles and it’s at 197k at the moment. In that time, all it’s needed is oil changes, spark plugs, and a new fuse. *knock on wood*

I lifted it and put the ECG bushing in.. now I have some driveline vibes and I need new UCA’s next. I told her get me some new UCA’s and a new steering rack at some point, maybe a new drive shaft, and I think she’ll keep ticking.

i wish I had gotten this truck at 75k miles. I would’ve kept it forever. I love everything about it. Color, JBL sound, 1GRFE, all of it. Idc if it’s boring to drive. If I got into a bad wreck and totaled it, I’d cry cause I’m not anywhere ready to give it up yet.

    it’s just that dang good.

My supercharged 2010 DCSB 4x4 TRD Sport hit 260,000 miles a few weeks ago. It's been lifted for 10 years. I couldn't have asked for a better truck. Every single time I mash the pedal i'm reminded how much I love it. I babied it for the first few years, but truthfully I've neglected it for most of its life. It just keeps on going, though.

For example, I rushed replacing the u-joints (chasing that minor drive line vibration) one weekend and told myself "next weekend I'll pack those bearings better." But did I? Nope, of course not. Fast forward a few months and the drive line pops off while cruising down the highway. Luckily no one else was around. Anyways, this was a turning point for me. I had just started grad school and couldn't afford a new driveshaft. So, I drove around in front wheel drive for the next 3ish years! That's a testament to the durability of the 2nd generation Tacoma.

That's been my only major issue and it was self-inflicted. Lots of tires, a few sets of brakes, I need a new AC blower motor right now (which is what brought me back to Tacoma World) since the original seems to have gone out (I did take it out and clean it really well several years ago when it stopped working, put it back in, and it ran fine until now).

I'm hoping to go through the truck and replace the fluids and belts soon, so she'll keep running another 260,000 miles and 13 years. I actually bought it because I needed a truck with a backseat when my first kid was born. I said it would be his first truck...and we're almost there!

My 2012 Tacoma v6 MT AC has 203k. Ive put on 1 set of brakes, 1 cv axle, more tires than I can remember. Lifted mildy for most of its lfe so Im on my second leaf pack and 2ns set of rear shocks. Little shit includes clocksping x 2 and ac blower motor x2 the first was cheap and noisy.
Water pump failed at 195k. For the cost I think I will keep it forever. Im pretty consistent on fluid changes Mobile 1 synthetic all around.

    No it isn’t.

It’s a bit luck of the draw. I have been meticulous with maintenance and at 160k miles my 2011 is now sporting its second driveline issue this year.

2-3 major (600$+) repairs per year at this point. Engine and trans are fine. The rest of the truck is falling apart.
