I have a high pitch noise coming from the front, happens sometimes on the highway or when going very slow 5mph and hitting the brakes. I took it to the dealer since I'm under warranty and they said they can't diagnose it with aftermarket wheels (I have 285/70r17) even though the noise was happening before the new wheels. The guy also said most drivetrain issues they aren't gonna touch with aftermarket wheels. Is this common? I made an appointment with another dealer to see what they say.

Yes, can vary dealer to dealer, but yes, it’s common.

Pretty common, especially if offset is one such that there is poke. They don't need to help if mods have been made, but at the same time I know dealers around here that put all sorts of aftermaket wheen on new trucks. So yeah try to see if you can find one that does the same in your area.

They're supposed to prove the wheels are the source of the issue before denying warranty work. They're just being dicks. They'd be more than happy to bill somebody whose out of warranty a diagnostic fee for any odd noises.

So what if the dealer adds aftermarket equipment to a new vehicle before selling it? Does that void all warranty's?

    You have it backwards.
They deny warranty and give you a reason for denying it. If it is valid, you have to prove it is not your mods causing it.
This is a valid warranty denied case.
If I were you, put stocker's back on and take it back.

Burden of proof is on dealer. By law. Went through this myself. Not a valid denial unless their investigation proves its caused by wheels. Call corporate and ask them yourself. And or just put stock wheels on and go back like said above.

Again, no. There is a nice read on the MM act up in the sticky threads above but I'll save you some time....
You have a noise. Dealer notices mods that COULD cause such noise and denies warranty.
He is done at that point.
You don't believe him and open a case with Toyota.
Toyota calls dealer to get the scoop.
Toyota then backs up the dealer.
    Then you sue.
Immediately Toyota lawyers decend and judge impounds vehicle as evidence. You start paying your lawyer.
    Toyota sends three-four of theirs.
You have to hire someone (expert) that says noise is not caused by mod.
    By then, you have
Lost the use of your truck for months
Paid much more than the warranty is worth
Pissed because it does not work the way you thought it would.

The MM Act is there to protect consumers from having a suspension warranty denied because you added seat covers or some such shit.
When the mod is in the same area as the problem? Sorry.
Best thing is hope he can find a sympathetic dealer that will overlook the mods.
    Read the sticky.

I played that exact same game with Chevy over a S10 POS.

In the end, I was out s crap load of Benjamin’s, lost the truck for ten months, then eventually Chevy bought it back. A huge loss for me overall.

And thus was in a bone stock truck. If you have a warranty, don’t mod the truck or expect dealer push backs with mod related noises and issues.

So many people think the dealer has to prove something. They take a look, determine a mod could cause it and deny warranty and they are done. They don't have to prove anything other than the mod could cause the issue. Then it's on you.

That's if you try to sue. Go to the FTC site and see what they say about how you handle it. You don't sue. You report the violation. So much hysteria about the MMA being useless, when it's people trying to use a ratchet as a hammer type scenario.

Thanks yall, they didn't even try to hear it. One look at the wheels and it's a wrap. How exactly are they selling cpo trucks with bigger wheels? Hopefully the other dealer let's it slide.

    Ok…..I hear what you’re saying
However, if they disagree, and you lawyer up, they have more resources. YOU end up on the short end if things.

1st hand experience, not an opinion or some crap spewed by someone on the internet.

Does aftermarket tires also invalidate warranty work?

Call Toyota, see if you can go somewhere else or another dealer.
