Upgrading to a hood scoop, Questions before I do?

I considering upgrading my 2006 TRD to a scooped Hood.

I'm considering a CAPA one off RockAuto or should just go with an OEM hood?

How much water leaks thru the hood?

Does anyone regret upgrading due to the glare I've heard about?

Not sure it's an upgrade. More of a lateral move. My advice is to dance with the gal that you took to the dance. On a 17 year old truck I can think of a lot more important things to spend money on.

 

Hood is toast from the wreck so.... a new hood is a must.

 

Looks like from your picture you need a hood anyway?
Why not get a scoop hood then.

 

I’m sure you’ve already checked the salvage yards around you for one that might be close in color?

I really want to put the solar panels on the roof. I'm not sure if I'll put them on a roof rack but the hood solar kits mounted straight to the roof would be super cool especially if I could mod some OEM roof bars. I've got an access cab thou.

 

I have checked. One salvage yard said if I wanted I could buy a co-parts one and have it delivered there to strip down. That was a cool option but I didn't do it.

 

Fiberglass. Saves a good bit of weight.

 

On my 2nd gen I never notice any glare.
As for reduced visibility, I disagree. I was in Moab back in March and that little bump in the hood made no difference. The whole hood reduced visibility.

 

Hood scope or no hood scope makes no difference climbing steep stuff, you can’t see much, if anything.

 

I had The OEM scooped hood on my '08, and just recently did the 2.5 conversion and bought an aftermarket scoop hood. The 2.5 definitely has better visibility than the 08 scoop. Also, don't make the mistake I did and go with a cheap aftermarket hood. I'm having tons of trouble getting it to fit properly, although I didn't buy the capa certified.

 

I have a 2nd gen. sport-water intrusion not a problem, glare has been an issue maybe 2-3 times that I can remember in 13+ years

 

Water intrusion though the hood scoop?
