No sales have gone up. This could be the last month of production for the 3rd gen. I can't imagine a lot of people will be ordering new 4th gens right away. I wouldn't consider buying a 4th gen until year 3 or 4 and that's depending on if I like what I see, and if I want a midsize truck. I don't like the new Ranger, and I probably wouldn't buy a GM midsize. It's kind of down to Frontier and Ridgeline if I'm shopping new midsize in 5 years. I'll probably like the styling of the new Tacoma, but it could be an underwhelming performer for the price. I'm out of the market on a new 3rd gen at this point, not that I dislike the 3rd gen. I almost went for an AC Sport would have preferred the SR SX, or TRD OR AC, and still like the utility package.

I would agree with that assessment.
I'm definitely looking forward to the new "oh shiny" getting everyone's attention.

4th gen looks pretty similar to the 3rd. Little wider appearance. Front end appearance is similar to the new sequoia and tundra, little beefy looking when compared to other taco gens.

Of course sales will go up and down on a quarterly basis. Long term, toyota will never have trouble selling Tacomas. Never. Sure, they aren't the fanciest, you can claim outdated tech, but you can't beat Toyota in a massed produced truck of this size.

Hah, my prior vehicle used to move 2-3 digit units per month. Different world, of course, but stark to see it in print.

Sales for big stuff will continue to slow . Dealers in general of all brands will need to get off their high horse and start to realize the economy is not in a good place . My guess is prices will start to back off across the board . Consumers can only absorb so much

I think that’s part of it for sure but I still think this bubble we are in is deflating. But just an opinion

you gotta look at trends.the drop between may and April isn't significant. what is, is the rise from the beginning of the year.

I don’t think using a few factors to analyze the reason a specific product in the market isn’t selling is not fair or accurate. The economy is taking a thrashing, supply chain issues and material sourcing has been impacted by geopolitical issues, the used car market is still pretty strong (can impact specific products), manufacturing, state policies, and a slew of other factors add to these numbers.

I for one purchased my 2023 Tacoma at my local dealer with no dealer mark ups. I bought it because I’ve never had a brand new car in my life. I bought because I wanted it. Do what you want. Don’t look at trends. You win some and you lose some but I’d bet money on the Tacoma when I look around in 5/10/20 years to see which cars are still going.

Yes but April is probably the peak with the rest of the year showing a decline in sales m/m. Toyota has to be about at the end of production for 3g trucks.

That does not take away from the sales success of 3g trucks. Toyota is still probably selling every Tacoma they build. I think it's interesting to see how the numbers pan out.

I haven't bothered doing the math but Ranger might have seen less of a sales decrease May/April than Tacoma, yeah it's only in the 4k range compared to Toyota's numbers. Honda also sold like 30 more Ridgelines May/April.

I friend of mine totalled his 2017 and wants to buy a 2023 with his insurance claim. He can’t find a new Taco to buy to save his life. As it stands now in Western Canada, sales are down because there is no supply.

Yeah I think it's limited supply bringing down the sales numbers. I don't look at Canadian sales numbers. I guess they follow the same overall trends as US numbers, just less volume overall. Toyota trucks seem more scarce, and even more in demand in Canada.

What about a Frontier, or Tundra?

Another friend of mine bought a new Frontier because he couldn’t get a Tacoma soon enough. It’s a nice looking truck.

I’ve been loosely following local inventories on new and used 3rd gen Tacoma’s. New ones have been pre sold before they hit the lots. They only seem to have allocations available to put a deposit on with no guarantee of arrival. Used 3rd gens come and go quite quickly at prices more that new in most instances. Not good at the moment with no end in sight.

Same for my buddy. Looking all over. The dealers that have one or two around here (LI NY) still have market adjustments. Most advertised trucks already allocated and in transit. Specifically wants BSM and he's still getting the lack of chips excuse. Not saying that's not true. Maybe they're holding chips for the new 2024s? They know they'll be able to sell every 2023 anyway.

Think this is case with all new trucks. Why? Because truckers , construction , maintenance, road work literally workers don't need fancy cars, and new trucks are fancy lol... Half plastic outside with fake chrome bumpers, with all the fancy interior, sporty looks that cost 20K more than regular steel truck that has 4 wheels and tows. Now tell me why a man who throws his truck around work, throws screwdrivers and all that stuff in car would want a truck like that?

Remember when trucks used to be made to be workhorses? basic looks made of steel and interior made of nothing but plastic, something you didn't care to scratch. They were less expensive too, because non sense like huge radio monitor, drive assist and fancy wheels, electronics weren't a thing.
