OGD is Beam's high-rye recipe, so supposed to be hotter/spicier.

Best hi-proof you're going to find for ~$30 tho.

All is well by the way, appreciate those who asked.

Ever since I had a very bad run in with COVID about a month ago, bourbon has not tasted the same. I poured myself an Ezra 7 year two nights ago, one of my favorites. It tasted bland and hot which is insane.

Yesterday had a pour of Blanton’s for the derby, which I also didn’t enjoy.

So here I am looking at a ton of bottles that really don’t taste very good to me. Bizarre.

That sucks. But if it’s only been a month, it might still get back to normal.

This happened to me too after a bout of covid. Didn't taste the same and I'd be hungover after 1 or two drinks. Happily it passed for me in about 2 weeks.

Hopefully yours will too, maybe just takes longer because you had a bad case?

This weekend I felt pretty back to normal otherwise. Had one of my favorite beers, tasted just fine. Tried the Ezra and was so sad. What’s really strange is the amount of burn. That made me wonder if there’s a bigger issue. I don’t drink much so I’ve never had a health concern about it, but having gotten into a lot of high proof stuff recently I started to wonder…

Definitely give it another month or so before such extreme actions. I know my taster was off for 2mo or so.

Give it time. For those with hard cases of COVID, it can take months for things to get back to approaching normal. Your collection isn't going to go bad sitting on the shelf if you still can't taste right in a year; then I'd let it go.

Well, high-proof stuff is certainly going to burn. There's no getting around that, it's the nature of the beast. But I still think more time is required for a full recovery.

I had a similar experience recently after I had the norovirus. I couldn't taste anything that I enjoyed. Bourbon and tequila were just unbearable. Three weeks passed and everything is back to normal. On top of that I got the virus from my favorite Chinese spot, I will never be able to pallet Chinese food again.

I don’t mind giving it another several weeks but I need to clear out some things regardless. Like, an extra case each of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare for starters.

It’s weird, most food tastes pretty normal to me, but the bourbon and whiskey just tastes…flat. And the nose of all of them is the same…ethanol. They all remind me of ole Jack from back in the day at a house party. Meaning, they smell and taste terrible.

Crazy you say that my sense of smell never got back to normal..i can smell maybe once or twice a month. So the smelling aspect of tasting bourbon I don’t get. Thanks a lot China haha

Capping off a wedding weekend (friend, not me) by sharing some nice pours with my lady. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

She gone… this bottle did not like to pose. It took me three tries to get a pic without it tipping lol. Cheers.

My first go with Pappy. Thought it was really good. But, now that I’ve tried it, can say I’ve tried and don’t need to spend any money on it again. I had the choice of this or the Old Rip Van Winkle to try, went with this.

This bar had a great selection of everything - really enjoyed the time talking to the bartender as well.

Damn. Did it again. Went in to replenish our vodka for my other half and it just happened. I was in the car on my way home, looked over in the passenger seat and saw this next to the vodka bottle. How did it get there? I don't remember buying it... in my defense I've been out of the Taketsuru for some time.

the norovirus was by the far the worst virus I have ever caught. Covid? Mostly a head cold for me. Norovirus? I felt like death every time I had to go to the bathroom…Which was after every sip of anything other than water or after a bite of anything other than bread. That lasted for over a week! I’m a small guy and I dropped closed to 8 lbs which is insane. Good news is that was in 2019 and after coming in contact with it a couple times since then, I have not contracted it again. So I’m hoping it’s one of those lifetime immunity things.
