Do you have adjustable UCAs? If you rub on lock at compression, my guess is you have a lot of caster or at the least more caster than I do.

Running non-adj. Total Chaos uppers. I ran JBAs prior to the TCs up until a few months ago (till the ball joints shit the bed), same situation.

I dont know, I'd have to see it to understand whats going on but our setups are different, what is your caster (just eliminating variables)? I adjust my cams all the way forward then used adjustable uppers to reduce caster down to about 2 giving the wheel a more vertical stroke.

I'll post a pic shortly to give a visual of where/how it rubs, and appears to be same situation with every Tacoma on 35s I've seen without bump spacers.

Again, just trying to find out what the workaround is other than limiting travel. I don't see how moving the uniball/ball joint fore/aft/inboard/outboard would change how far up the tire is traveling toward the upper sheet metal.

If you're actually running 35x12.5 you're also running a metric 35" wheel compared to 34.6" (35/70R17 or 35/75R16). The extra .2" of radius probably isn't it but I'm sure it doesn't help.

Where exactly in the inner fender do you rub? If it's toward the outside, I'd wager it's backspacing too.

The green highlighted area is where I rub at full stuff. That whole upper arc.

What’s interesting, that is the whole underside of the fender. I’ve actually never rubbed that. The only thing I can think of is variations in tire size and tread design from manufacturers. We works with tight tolerances of the wheel well so it could be something like that but idk.

I rub in that area also at full stuff. It's not terrible, but it's there.

8.5" wheel with -10 offset, 35x10.5R17 tires (measures 34.7"). SPC UCA ball joint set at position E and all the way outboard in the slot, LCA cams set to pull tire forward as much as possible. Also have Wheelers super bumps.

Yeah, you can see through the green highlight that the black paint has worn away nearly all the way around. I've gotta get those bump spacers on ASAP to avoid the common core support damage our trucks see from repeated smashing in that area.

It's so weird that you don't hit there. Even when I had 285/75R16s they would kiss that area on a hard bottom-out at speed.

The only place I've rubbed is high on the firewall when I jacked my alignment, once I fixed my alignment it was gone.

One thing for certain is people should anticipate rubbing/trimming/cutting with whatever tire size they choose.

Some coilovers and springs can limit uptravel aswell. And body mount bushing condition will vary

I left a 3/4in gap when tubbing for 40s and still rub when jumping the truck.

I rub there too. I have Dirt King lowers and Superbumps with the spacers that come with the Dirt Kings.

Did you change bumps or extend them or just leave it?

The Dirtking lowers come with spacers. So I put those spacers on with the Wheeler's Superbumps. I'm probably going to space them a bit more to help stop the rubbing.

I hate to be that person but how do y'all fit 35s without tubbing and stock bumps? This is me with 285s and I am about 3/4" away from the top of the wheel well with 0 offset wheels.

Short answer: we don't. As mentioned in recent posts, I (and the vast majority) rub with 35s up top with stock bumps and no tubbing.

i went 1" body lift. some guys do hours of upper fender fab work and relocating stuff inside engine bay. nah il take the ever so slightly higher center of gravity and bask in my full 35" tire clearance with zero rub. the only bad part about a 1" body lift is you have to redrill rear bumper mount holes 1" down and one isnt used anymore. if not there is an ugly gap.

Finally got them back on after having some work done over the winter.

For other folks wondering and because finding alignment+build+pictures all in one post is a real challenge in this 95+ page thread: SPC UCA, stock LCA, Fox 2.5 RR with 14" Eibach springs, Icon RXT leaf springs, AccuTune U-Bolt flip and bump stops (3"), Archive hammer hangers with crosstube and 3.6 shackles, Total Chaos Spindle gussets. No bumps up front. 315/75R16 BFG KO2 mounted on SCS RAY10 16x18 -12 (4" BS). DRT cab mount relocation. Not that it matters but the rear bumper is an apogee and the front bumper is an SSO full plate with a Warn 12K evo mounted.

How’s this alignment look? I need to get it up on a forklift this weekend.

Full left turn on the left side clearance to the UCA since that came up a bunch in this thread:

Update: I haven’t had a chance to hit up a friend with a forklift yet but I rub at full lock when going over speed bumps. I haven’t checked exactly where yet but I don’t rub when hitting them straight or at all in reverse.

    Next weeks investigation!

What's it sound like when you rub?
