Toyota doesn't advertise their oil at all.

My 79 Chevy stepside has 420,000 on it and antique tags, my 91 Isuzu has 320,000 on it and antique tags. I plan on putting antique tags on this Tacoma in 25 years.

We weren't referring to Toyota oil. Please keep up, and I do hope your truck will last for years also.

I'm a little late to this party but I have never seen an oil well in Japan.

I take you must of used only Toyota motor oil in your chevy, and Isuzu. Heaven forbid if they got that kind of mileage on them from some cheap dino motor oil.

No, those older vehicles don’t use synthetic oils, I’m not sure if they even made synthetic oil in 1979, duh

Probably because it's not their oil... they just put their name on it so they can charge more. I wonder what they'd charge if it said TRD on the label lol. :facepalm:For pretty much the same thing (same company) just buy Mobile One by the case when it's on sale at Costco.

I'll assume you haven't been reading the thread. It has been established that the Toyota product is an exclusive formula manufactured (by Mobil) for them.

I find it (along with filters) to be priced fairly at my local dealer, obviously some dealers may choose to price higher.

I would agree with you. I have heard 5 years and actually used 5 year old oil in my mower. The oil looked just as it was brand new.

Old timers often used waste oil, but that's messy that's why use the 20-40 had a gallon of it for some thing. A chain doesn't care about viscosity no tight tolerance there.

You're telling me they got that high mileage from regular motor oil? Sort of means you don't need any special Toyota sold motor oils then. duh?

I've used a lot of spent 75w-90 gear oil in the past for my chainsaws. Love the aroma of the limited slip stuff as you cut through logs.

My dealer used mobil1 extended service during toyota care. I wouldn't say thats a cheap oil. Even when Toyotas care ended, they recommended 10k mile oil changes which I'm sticking to. I wouldn't say I'm one of those in the severe category.

The real questions is, what common problems with the 3.5 are you trying to prevent?

If I wasn't using Amsoil I would use Pennzoil Ultimate Platinum. . . . . .great stuff. As far as CamGuard goes it really is a waste of money as is any oil additive.

    Congratulations on the new truck.

Any major brand oil that meets specifications is fine, none of them need any third party additives. Change it every 5K and drive it.

You do not need any additives for this engine. A quality 0w20, 0w30, or 5w30 synthetic will do just fine. Hell, even Supertech synthetic bought at Walmart is a very good oil. Don't overthink it.
