Just bought a 1998 with 350k miles. Clutch has never been changed and has obviously seen better days. Should I go OEM clutch replacement? Or aftermarket? While im in there I was going to do a new throw out bearing. Anything else I should also take care of in the process?

I've had good luck with the LUK clutch kits & flywheels.

Throw out bearing for sure, do the rear main while you're there too.

    OME and worth every penny.
The trans. is going to be stuck like Chuck to the dowels in the block. I'd put a new hydraulic system in with it.

Should I get flywheel turned while I have it apart?

If you can find a reputable machine shop that knows how to properly machine the OEM flywheel, I would definitely have it turned. I could not find anyone in my area so replaced the flywheel in my V6 with a LUK. It is working great along with the AISIN clutch kit from Rockauto. You should also change out the pilot bearing and at least inspect the rear main seal. Both of these original parts on my '97 V6 were showing their age so were replaced with OEM parts.

I wouldn't go over board on some thing with 350K! replace the clutch assembly call it good.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
it is going to come down to just how you plan on using the truck!!!!

Also your style of driving some people are brutal on clutches.

I have had good luck with all the name brands in the past things have really changed the last few years.

I would look real close at the at the clutch release lever while your in there at least grease the pivot ball.

I always install new hydraulics at the same time .

    Good luck

It gets harder and harder to find a shop to turn flywheels .

The cost can exceed the price of new in many cases Depending where you buy.

Then the turn around time might be an easy 2 weeks or longer.

I plan on building this truck and not getting rid of it anytime soon. Starting small and doing maintenance and TLC. Getting a parts list together and slowly ordering parts. If anyone knows of some awesome 5 lug builds on here let me know so I can :spending:
