When I was looking at bikes, I tried a Giant as well as a Trek. The Giant was nice, but something about the frame geometry didn't feel quite right. The Cannondale was very comfortable and just felt better balanced.

It's like buying a car - can have everything done right by the engineering, but if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. The best bike is one that you'll use!

I need to work on my bike. The chain rubs the derailleur slightly after I brought it to get a tune up. I let my step-son borrow it and he somehow managed to get the chain jammed in the crank pretty hard. Thought for sure some links would be bent. The chain gouged up the crank arm too.

In true TW fashion, I'd say part it out and buy a new one. Right?

Chain popped on mine so I repaired it but now same issue. I'll replace the chain but if we get our other tax return I'll be buying a new bike probably.

For you Jason I say 29" all the way. Your pretty tall plus Dennis is right, there is a bigger/better selection of them as they are getting more and more popular.

There's still plenty in 650b, that's my preference in the MTB world but that's subjective - I'm "only" 5'10", and I like the smaller wheels on bikes. But yeah, there's a lot more everything for 29ers. Not that 650b is gone like the 26", but there's just more in the 29er world if you like the size.

27.5 is newer though and I think will likely dominate the future market. 29 is too much wheel for the majority of riders it seems.

Only photo on my phone I could dig up of my road wheels. I have an embarrassingly low amount of hours on this bike.

Yep, both of them are :anonymous: the 29's just plow over stuff a lot better!
Personally, I doubt 27.5 will dethrown 29's. I don't see 27.5 dying like 26" did, they'll likely stay on small framed bikes and mullets. They're also great for 'poppy' bikes. But you can now build up light weight 29" wheelsets that weigh very little more than 27.5's but roll over obstacles much easier.

Honestly, I'm running a medium with 29's and the bottom bracket clearance is about the same. They make the frames now so they drop a bit in the middle, keeping center of gravity low, the ground clearance isn't very dissimilar to my old 27.5 bike. I really like the taller tire because it doesn't stuff into obstacles as easily, it's more apt to roll over whatever I encounter. I have the same gearing on my new 29'r as I did on my 27.5 and I definitely notice it on climbs. Less mechanical advantage but still managable.

What's the gearing options these days? I have a 24 speed, but I rarely use the gears on the crank unless climbing a steep hill.

    Some 2x10...mostly 1x11 or 1x12
With a 1x the teeth can be deeper so rare to drop the chain
