To me it just makes business sense, why build and ship 4Runners from far away when you can build them much closer.

What’s cheaper? Loading them on a ship or building an entire new factory?

I don't think the current 4R shares much of anything parts wise with the 3rd Gen. If the next Gen 4R shares the same TGNA platform with the Tacoma then it can easily be added to the Tacoma Factories in Mexico.
Edit: l also thought the purpose of the global architecture platforms was to build as many different models as possible from the same platforms.

Is there even capacity to add more production at the Mexican factories?

As someone who has lifted both I would say there are subframe components, upper and lower control arms, and various other things that look very similar. Maybe transfer case too?

no way will any Tacoma go on a Tundda/Sequoia subframe. It will go on a TNGA platform scaled down from the Tundra. I bet anything the next 4Runner will share that same chassis.

Someone posted it's the same frame platform modified for a mid size truck.

Just a hunch…Tundra got a smaller cab, Tacoma a little larger. Both cabs made to fit the same chassis. Tacoma’s fenders and bedsides basically got the wide body treatment to fit the track width, wheels have different offset….waa-laa, Tacoma on the Tundra chassis. Which isn’t a bad thing. Hopefully they did something for the dismal payload.

Maybe narrower cross members. Real curious if the suspension components are the same.

I'm thinking it's all new design, even upper and lower front control arms. Definitely the rear but not the same as the Tundra. Just a hunch

Platform and Chassis/Frame are different, but all too often incorrectly used interchangeably causing much confusion in conversations about TNGA

Be cool if they were the same, just think how burly it would be.

OK, this may sound laughable but...hear me out.

Being that the iForce Max engine is going to not only have more power and more torque than the 1GR-FE but that power and torque will be available at much lower RPMS, could we effectively (key word) be looking at a truck that's twice as powerful as the Gen 2 4.0L?

Good thought and I’d like to believe this, but NX & Highlander’s don’t see a fraction of the abuse that the new Taco’s will. We have no idea how that little boosted four will perform under all sorts of stresses for at least a couple years, and odds are good that early fixes will be required. And that’s just the motor.

If ‘21 Tundra resale numbers are any indication, Gen3’s will continue to hold their value very well, and its teething issues were worked out years ago. Accounting for the ‘24 price increases (also see Tundra..) & inevitable dealer markups, you have a great case to avoid the early hype & hold off buying a Gen4 until at least ‘25 or later.

Gen4 looks like a winner, but I’d prefer not to be the first guy to pay too much for a ‘24, only to create one of the first complaint threads b/c my portable JBL blew…

One could perhaps argue that the NX's powerplant sees more abuse than the Taco's will as an SUV is going to be more performance geared while a truck is utility geared.
