I never got in trouble looking at naked welds!!

When I was in school (1971-1974) Mig and Tig were exciting new processes seldom seen outside of the Manufacturing industries .

Then of course all the old school welders did not trust the process It was Stick Welding or nothing we all learned Oxy- Fuel welding and Brazing .

It was funny as the new Kid I was the only crew member who was current on those processes it must have been 1980 till those machines trickled down to shops with less the 25 employees . Being used just in the shop

I think the first time I did any major wire welding in the field was in 1989 after that it became common to see the early volt sense feeders

    MIG. Without question, MIG.

Faster, shallower learning curve, cheaper, more versatile, less frustrating, wider acceptable operating ranges. All around a better choice for beginning.

A good quality machine will make a huge difference in the learning curve. I swear a good Lincoln or Miller mig will make any inexperienced welder look experienced.

Swapped my small 75/25 for Argon, but now I need to make a mini TIG/spoolgun cart :anonymous:

i could argue that point .

    really not that important.

It would comedown to the standards one used to tell the difference.

I think you just like building carts .

I built hand trucks to mount the cylinders on then secure them within reach of the feeder .

Pulling a cylinder over long ago was enough excitement .

Most times the feeder sits as close to the floor as possible to eliminate that big drop in the gun.

It comes down to just what interesting positions one seems to get into

Try using the Harbor Freight flux core machine. That Chicago Electric flux core unit is trash compared to just about any other flux core machine.

I honestly believe that unit has turned off more people from welding than anything else.

I was lucky enough to use one .

The tiny spools make it even more fun

The trick is to keep the output as low as possible .

the fan and wire drive motor take power from the output Like most things crank it up and hope in this case it makes it worse. This is the simple version some details might be wrong after all these years.

Only unit I’ve ever used and I hated it. So hard to get working right and just frustrating to mess with. Definitely got me discouraged up front. I am looking at 220 for the garage and a real mig/flux setup since I can see myself always wanting a decent welder and think the upfront investment is worth it

Lol I do like cutting stuff on my table, but noooo I don't want another regular sized cart.

Just something compact, narrow really, for the small bottle to sit on as well as my TIG torch and spoolgun.

Maybe a small shelf for my consumables and a side plate to hold my rods.

Need to draw it up first unless someone wants to post ideas I can follow. No machine will sit on this cart as I'll be running the leads off my multiprocessor.

Ain't priced high either! Figure I'd make a dollar and someone can cut themselves out as many as they'd like.

Making a whole new cart or just going to modify yours?

I don't want to make another one but I just might...thinking of drawing it out later to cut on the table.

Also, I'll finally get to use this gas lens kit I won from PrimeWeld

Here's the kit I used to use at work, gas lens with glass cup

How do you like the spool gun?

My 30A is a bit bulky, but does what I ask.

Just modifying this one so the new bottle sits lower. Might just add a filler rod holder too
