Mostly 1x setups. My mountain bikes are 1x12, gravel is 1x11. You can still find 2x setups though.

According to the tracking site my tracked motorcycle thing is now in Nashua.
I'm honestly quite surprised we've gotten this far. We'll see what actually shows up.

The next step up, is a 650# spring in the front. My current are 600#..

I'm on the fence for the icin rtx rear, or, something else...
And it's a debate whether I will need a longer read shock....

I get the bennies of the 6112s... but, at this point, I think it is best to stick with my 5100s....

650 is plenty if you don't want to crank the preload, and yeah the 5100s are probably more than enough for your use-case (I just like the 6112s :anonymous:). Icons are gonna be the best bang for your buck in the rear though, there's not much else out there that won't cost you way more than you should be spending

The older I get, the more I end up using the small chain ring up hills.

Some days I think I should have one of these,

Agreed. Just doesn't make sense right now. If I get to a point where I start having fade issues, etc, different discussion.

I'm game. Ordered the heavier coils last night.

Next trick will be if I need extended rear shocks with the next leaf pack.

I need to put some time aside... New coils, UCAs, and rear leaf. Kinda hard not getting the HHs as well.

Sure....we can figure out a day. It might be a great time as well to upgrade to +4 extended brake lines if you haven't already.

The issue isn't the weight, as much.

    images_c0ca604ced2ec2aa9cc8bba2b52e913915150f2b.jpg

This is the moment of inertia - the second one on the top is, near enough, a bike wheel. This is the "rotational weight" as the thing spins about the axis. M is mass, R is radius. Radius is exponential, mass is not. As the mass goes up, it is a direct rise. Radius - exponentially. A 29 is 0.75" larger radially, so that effect has WAY more of an impact on your ride than the mass being the same.

You'll notice this in the air, not so much on the ground. That's why I like 27.5 (since 26 is basically dead these days), because I'm more of a fiend for air time.

MTB is almost exclusively 1x ("1 by") up front. It makes it so much simpler to maintain, less parts, less cables, less weight, and more clearance using only a single chainring up front.

Road pros have dabbled with 1x gearing but the responses have been not good, so road is almost exclusively 2x10 nowadays.

On a 1x you (SHOULD) have a narrow-wide chainring up front, this site explains it way better than I can and with a bunch of really good pictures and whatnot.

    https://www.diymountainbike.com/what-is-a-narrow-wide-chainring-and-what-does-it-do/

    ME WANT.

I have a retrospec amok for commuting + running the dog. Unfortunately I can't use the road bike for holding the leash for running the dog, this has beefier tires for the roads that are crap on the way to work, etc. Thing's great - but for the grocery runs, I have to use a backpack. Which isn't terrible it's 0.5 miles each way to the grocery store.

I saw those or similar all over Paris.

CAREFUL you're in the ford thread

My other bike is a 2008 Cannondale F4, which is now set up as a hybrid/trail bike. Last fall I took the crank arms off, cleaned and lubricated the bearings, adjusted everything. It's good for what I use it for, which is light trail riding. Many days I like doing that more than road riding.

At least this thing is a metric engine. Had to scav two bolts out of the Toyota pile. New pump is in, waiting on the gasket to set before I torque and pressure test.

This 3.0 is getting new heads and piston rings in the next year or two and this job already tells me I'm gonna suck it up and get a hoist and possibly a stand. What a lousy engine layout.

Of course. A little JB Weld and that will be fine.
