S turns in a tube are now a crush zone so in a roll over the cage will nicely crush around you so you can’t get out. In the over head tubes there is no triangulation. Look up the term “dead tubes” because that’s what they are. Totally worthless. Just the look of that cage is scary. The tube running across the top of the windshield looks like it will just end up in your neck in a serious rollover.

You do know the 4l80 is physically larger and mounts differently than the 60? Put an 80 in it and be done so you are not doing it twice. Also the manual won’t survive off road either… the automatic torque converter acts as a fluid coupler to dampen shock loads.

I’d way rather roll over in a stock truck… that thing looks like a death trap!

I bought a set of MarTec mounts because I have poly trans mounts. I tried to install and got frustrated and stopped. It’s a huge pain in the ass for me to get slack from the rear mounts to swap the fronts and I’m going to have to build up courage to try again. That being said, they’re a basic bitch generic poly deal and the price reflects it, but that’s all I need for what I’m doing.

anyone on here planning on going to the Fiesta Island 2nd annual DFM Prerunner meet on June 17th Sat? It’s a 3+ hr drive for me but thinking about taking my two boys. Would be cool to have a bunch of us Tacoma guys meet up prior and roll in together.

Let’s not forget the tubes right at head level and the fact it doesn’t tie to the frame. It’s a clout cage and nothing more.

It goes through the floor and gets welded into the frame if I’m not mistaken.

is this cage not a good place to start? What if door bars were added to close that loop and a couple more tubes were added in the roof to triangulate it?

I appreciate the info, im new to the cage game. I have a “cage” in the Lexus, really it’s a bolt in roll bar behinds the front seats. Don’t have to worry about it crushing anyone. If this is a bad starting point, the the real go to just one made from scratch?

That cage is similar to race seats w/harnesses but no cage. Looks cool but won’t end well. I would think if you’re going to add those extra tubes, weld to floor etc it would be better to just cage it properly. Do it right the first time. After my slow no roll over with no cage I could only imagine a roll at speed! I will not off-road in a vehicle without a cage now! Shit even a bad accident in the fwy with that cage would be scary!

Any good recommendations for that here in Phoenix? Sounds like I’ll have to worry about this once the truck is fully running and driving and can drive it somewhere to have it done.

Why don't you have 454Motorsports build a cage for you?

Also if you are gonna use it I would recommend to tie in the bed cage and engine cage to the cab cage. Helps strengthen and stiffen up truck so suspension can work better/properly.
Again after that slow rollover safety went from third to second!

I asked him about it and I get it, being liable for safety equipment that’s supposed to save someone life is a huge risk. He’s already liable for suspension stuff. if a cage becomes cause of death in an accident, it’s too much liability for him. I get it.

For the price you're going to pay to have someone install a cage, you'll want to have it done right. I wouldn't want to spend the money finding a half assed solution knowing I may have to spend more time/money to fix it later.

A caged truck in a highway accident is only going to cause (IMO) more injury to the occupants in the truck. While the cage will help the vehicle and protect you from the outside influence it's the internal moving of your body that will make contact with the cage*. Toyota made the truck cab with space for you to get tossed in an accident, by putting a cage in you're closing the space between you and the immovable object. Off-roading the cage will protect you from the 2nd roll, the cab is designed to protect you from the first (normal speeds). This is why I'm putting a sturdy roll bar in the bed to help protect the cab from the 2nd roll. Between the bumper angle and roll bar we should be able to walk away.
Again, this is my opinion and take it for what it's worth...or wear a helmet.

*unless you completely hide the cage inside panels

If I don’t exo cage first I’m curious what a JD cage would look like if that’s still something being developed.
