What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Battery relocate is a good idea. Removing my airbox helped me push that side entirely out of the way finally. Soon for the other side I'm thinking too.

 

slowly but surely my bed space is dwindling away between the spare 35, water meth container, and now possibly battery

 

I was just going to make the extra cab storage area in the back even bigger and remove the stock one and put two vented batteries back there instead. That way you get more covered storage if you need it and a safe place to put your batteries and do some wiring.

No way my battery would fit in the stock location after clearance for 35s with Solos.

 

Hmm yea not a bad spot. that's where I currently have my methanol pump. Although making a whole new storage area in that space wasn't something I had originally planned on, so I'll have to chew on that idea for a bit.

Yea I figured that would be the case. Is yours in the bed now?

I bought a new set of ACC floor mats for my ‘98 and I noticed they did not have a hole in them for the factory installed anchor. I did some research and found a solution. I bought some decorative two piece rings and a leather hole punch. (AMAZON baby!)
Both have a 17mm ID. It worked well! Looks almost factory!

And, while under there discovered rack bushing split/torn. Rack has less than 30000, installed by a dealer.

I’m definitely interested in doing the tundra brake conversion eventually on my 99! How challenging of a project was this? Anyone have a reference on what year tundra brakes you can switch over to a first gen Taco?

 

Combining it with replacing my shocks added effort. The brake swap itself went pretty well. My challenge was getting the clips loose, getting the hard line to line up with the braided end and into the spindle bracket.

 

check out all the daylight between rack and bracket.

 

Not hard. Cutting the dust cover to clear was the hardest part. Ran braided to the calipers and didn't mess with hardlines.

13wl are the calipers you want. Can't recall the years.

It's a direct bolt in upgrade. I think the parts for my 01 were for an 03 tundra. Gotta be cognizant of your wheels as not all 16" wheels clear the larger caliper. Mine do by about 1/8" and the weights have to be placed accordingly. As mentioned the clips and lines can be a bit finicky but overall it's an easy Saturday day job if you take your time.
