easier to see the coolant bypass from under the truck. Slide in behind passenger wheel and look up and forward, you'll see the right side of the bypass pipe big as texas. Hopefully no pink coolant residue!

regarding the timing chain cover leak, they said the issue was resolved from 2019 on but that does not jive with many posts here.
when he said "too many to count" he later said well over 100 some on warranty and some not.

Talk about making shit up... A fact from my eyes, every tacoma owner I know certainly does (work & friends). We we speak frequently about our Tacoma's (pisses off the others around us) We all use them daily for various activates and keep them well maintained. Why would you assume the average owner does not? I know why, cause my brothers, sister, cousins, bartender, fuck-buddy is a service manager bro and they told me so

Anecdotal evidence is typically considered the least certain type of scientific information. its good for forming hypothesis but not in validating evidence. As a whole i would bet most people dont service their vehicles like the people you know because most people are lazy and couldn't care less.

So, your 2 or 3 friends that over maintain their tacomas speak for the whole Tacoma population? And yes, I do gather info from a Service manager I know. He runs one of the highest volume dealers in the Northeast. So, yea I take advice from him.

Most people follow basic factory maintenance... Same with the dealer unless the customer appears to need the severe maintenance schedule.

I get my oil changes done at the dealer on both my trucks. They follow the basic
Maintenace schedule on each. My 2nd gen is lifted with bigger tires and they still recommend the basic schedule.

    Exactly.

Not everyone is like us TW members who geek out about their tacomas. Most people want to do the bare minimum or sometimes nothing at all.

There's maintained, and then there's well maintained, like changing the oil and other fluids every week. Most car, and truck owners I know try to do the minimum maintenance when they start to have an issue. Its only on some of these sites like tw, you get the crazies that go beyond normal maintenance.

Now we are all guessing... I think most folks follow the maintenance in the manual or when the small warning light on dash lights up letting the driver know it is time to service.

I might change the oil in my Tacoma twice a year, I doubt if I ever put 10,000 miles on it in a single year since I got it in 2012. It hasn't been a daily driver since 2018, and when it was I didn't put many miles on it.

87,000 plus Kms and 5 plus years. Still not a drop of oil from the timing cover or anywhere else. Based on the dealership numbers, my truck must in rarified air!!!

Hey Bob, all kidding aside, I pay attention to your posts and try to be helpful. There are several here I have mad respect for and I will do whatever I can to help. Thanks.
Others? Bunch of entitled whiny ass crybaby's who thinks the world owes them something. Those, I fuck with.

Many I know never followed the manual when it came time for maintenance....I think its why toyota has that feature with the light on the dash now.

took it to the dealer and yep, needs coolant bypass replaced. they are working up the price for all parts needed and have to get approval for the extended warranty. that is a call to the mainland and they are closed due time difference from maui. i will get that info on monday and schedule fix.
mean while during my 3 hour wait i checked out the 2023's. i am a 4X2 guy and there was 1 TRD Sport with sticker 37K. i asked the salesman so what is the mark up and he said they do not mark them up, the sticker price is the price period. he said for my 2016 TRD 28K miles he estimated mid to low 20'K. on trade. i might be tempted?
