Hell, my wife found my bottle of JD I stashed (She has me on a no carb diet). When I retrieved my bottle of Gentleman Jack she busted me for that too! Good thing I had just refilled my pint JD bottle.
I'll have to make a run to the store tomorrow, this new bottle goes in my gun safe!

I'd offer a pour or three of my stash, but I just looked... She got to my JD too!

I feel you on that. I lost 14lbs in three days. I'm not small, but I couldn't even keep water down for 48 hours. Rough.

Drinking whiskey neat shouldn’t have any carbs or sugars. There are calories, but that’s about it.

About a week late. I was visiting Nashville on vacation and got to try all three of these. I rank them as follows.

WLW, then Pappy 15, finally Stagg

    F4DEE439-1756-468E-BA6A-15E359D2015D.jpg

Pricing were competitive although some would say ridiculous . WLW and Stagg came to 37.00 each and the Pappy for two shots were 60.00 each. Glad I got to try them. None of them ever will be a 1500 plus dollar bottle. You realize the diminishing returns.

Bourbon has been relatively slow in my neck of the woods lately, so I've been turning my attention to Scooch.

in the same way I fanboy Wild Turkey, I am quickly becoming an acolyte for Bruichladdich - it seems like everything I try from them is magnificent, and I suspect it has to do with their grain selectiveness and, especially, that they proof their whiskies to 100 instead of the 80-86 range most Scotches fall into.

Eh, not really. Only the Johnnie has any smoke to it really. The rest are unpeated and have that grain/fruit profile.

I have plenty of peated stuff too tho, don't fret :)

Really? Huh. Out of those four, I've only had the Double Black. I'd have figured the two Islay bottles would be smoky/peaty.

Bruichladdich is on Islay, true, but they do produce unpeated Scotches.

Their peated stuff is probably my favorite smoke - Port Charlotte is excellent and their Octomore series is the most heavily peated whisky in the world:

    And while we're at it:

If Wild Turkey embodies traditionalism in whiskey making with Jimmy Russell's "Hard headed and old fashioned" mantra, Bruichladdich may be exactly the opposite. Reopened under new ownership in 2001, they are doing some really cool new-school stuff in the Scotch world:

Yes! Bruichladdich is my favorite Islay distillery. They've got a beautiful range of both peated and unpeated offerings. Such good stuff presented at a proof point that really lets your palate know that it means business. I wish other Scotch distilleries would follow their presentation model.

Trying a new one tonight. Slight hint of peat but also very sweet. Really enjoyable.
