3rd Gen Roof Windshield Visor

I'm a new member long time stalker and I recently posted some pics of my truck on here and on Facebook and I have gotten a lot of questions about my visor. So I figured I would try to make it easier if someone was interested in one to post what I went through and ended up with.

I found a few websites selling visors for the 3rd Gen but it seems that only one actually makes them called JSP America.
JSP America claims they make them and sell them to the other websites for resale.
I also believe they bought all the old LUND visor designs because their part numbers are the same as LUND's was.
The salesperson also told me to order from their eBay store because that was the best deal.

1st Try
So I ordered the JSP 3rd Gen Visor part number 523002 and it DID NOT FIT
The 523002 was only 48" wide, same width as the Taco cargo rack from 2005 to 2020.



I called JSP and I had no problem returning it and they said they are going redesign the 3rd Gen visor.

But I didn't want to wait so I ordered the JSP 2nd Gen Visor part number 12354 off of eBay $229.95.

Lights
I wanted dark tinted roof running lights with Amber LED replaceable bulbs.
So I ordered Partsam 5pcs Smoke Cab Maker 264159BK

If you decide to buy these lights, they come with cheap real soft rubber light sockets that the bulbs will melt the first day
I replace the light sockets with some hard plastic ones. I went to Advance Auto and got them, I haven't had them long enough to see if they are any good or not.

Install
The Visor comes with 8 self tapping screws & caps which I had the caps painted too.
I didn't see them install it but I would guess they drilled some small pilot holes.
They ran the wires under the windshield trim then under the hood so that's one less hole in my roof. They tied the wiring into my drivers side running light.
Where the screws are and a small area around the screws is the only place where the visor touches the roof and that's where they put silicone or some kind of sealer.
I paid $449 for paint and visor + lights & wiring installed.



Yea I know, them screws came with the lights and a little to long I'm going to replace them.
Con Not sure why they designed it like this but where the front screws go, that area holds water when it rains. Maybe it blows out when I drive, I'll have to wait an see. Might be able to drill a little pin hole to drain it if it doesn't blow out.

Roof Rack?
I had some questions about roof & cargo racks. I don't know where the front holes are under the molding strip, but the visor covers the front seam of the molding strip.
The visor is 46" from the molding strip seam towards the back to the visor.




Noise
I don't hear anything from it, but my tires are pretty loud.
Happy Time
So visor, lights, paint, new sockets, and installation I got around $700 in this visor.
I'm sure others could get it done for cheaper but I am real happy with the outcome.

While I'm a fan of the visors and had one on my jeep, why the marker lights when you're not wide enough?

Yea I thought about it for months before I went for it.

 

They just for show kinda like the Raptor grill lights.
When I taped it on to make sure it fit, I looked at it with and without the lights and I liked it better with lights.

That takes me right back to the 80's, early 90's. Thought were long gone.

 

I know I miss how they use to do it back then even though I wasn’t even born until the 2000’s

 

Most of these will eventually leak, drive you crazy due to vibration noise and/or crack your roof skin.

 

Maybe in the future but they look good. But yeah I wouldn’t like the idea of drilling holes.

 

I must say that’s the first Tacoma I’ve seen with that thing on.

That visor probably makes so much noise.

Thanku for the detailed journey you took. I havnt been so lucky. After i received the "new" model from JSP and it didnt fit, all i got was a dismissive attitude from anyone i spoke too. One lady said "we wont send another one bcuz u didnt like the 1st visor"
Tried to explain it didnt fit but it fell on deaf ears.

Then i saw their ebay auction and the visor they show there looks nothing like the one i received. Tried to order that one but they wouldnt sell it to me becuz... u guessed it... i didnt like the 1st one.

I then asked for the visor designed for the 2nd generation Taco and they said they dont stock it and dont have one for my 3rd generation. Are you kidding me!

Ive never dealt wih such an incompetent/lazy company. You would think they would at least try and troubleshoot with me. So i could... you know, PAY THEM. Im pretty such selling their products is an important part of their revenue. And it was nothing but attitude after the 1st one didnt fit.

Here are some shots of the dry fit. Not only did it not fit but there was a big bend in the middle. Not a huge deal, but the front needs to be more squared for strength. I wouldnt wanna drive on the highway with this one becuz we could bend it easily in our hands. I imagine it would vibrate until it ripped off.

Anyway, i was thinkin bout going to the junk yard to measure other model trucks. If i can find one thats close to my 2019 Taco profile Im thinkin about getn that model and just shiming it to fit. If anyone have any advice or ideas, id be greatful
