but the big thing is the 405 was on a stock -FXE bottom end (hybrid) with kelfords big cams (Which are not that big.. and have a bank imbalance issue like the stock ones that later custom grinds will address) and zero head work.. realistically with the compression ceiling marc and i THINK we have.. 450 MIGHT be touchable on decent budget

Oddly enough Link and Holley have the best GDI programming options.

No Honda guys have options to build their various manual transmissions for power well beyond the 400hp 500tq range, stuff Toyota's are lacking cause it's not a platform anyone is using.

generally accepted that the late model e153 (1993+) is good for ~600-700 ft lbs out of the box from toyota.. but they're not fast shifting transmissions. internal oil pump and a stock viscous diff = hot running manual transmission

Where? Puerto Rico or something? I hardly ever see FWD competing unless it's a Honda or a VW. Can't remember the last FWD Toyota I saw in competition that wasn't Honda powered or a road race vehicle.

If it has a pump it means you can cool it at least that's worth something

This doesn't add up to a large market. But I get what you're saying, it's their one non dogshit for power FWD trans so people need parts for em still

its actually a good transmission to handle power. the S series is weak. the E series is stout. e15X are the beefiest. e35X are narrow diff units that are strong enough with a Diff upgrade. but not up to 500 ft lbs +

the 1300 hp v6 camry is running a e153.. once apon a time it was a cheap transmission to find. now thanks to the age of them... they're getting pricey.. but toyota still blesses us with brand new units once every few months.. usually 30 at a time... and they sell out in 2-4 days

early models you cant get much. but they're not worth fixing.

late models you can get every single gear and syncro. the only iffy parts are the 3.9 final drive stuff and speedo rings.

Pump lubricated is interesting for a front-wheel drive manual transmission, is it just really tall or something were they worried about it not splashing up to the top

no one knows why they did it.. it probably didnt need it.. but it has it. and it seems to help these things survive high rpm on the input shaft. it just sucks they dont like SHIFTING at the highest rpm.. my current one isnt too picky. but some of these things can be miserable to shift at 7500 rpm.

I've noticed that on a few older Toyotas. They kind of just start to nope out above 5,000. R&w series both don't seem to like it either although with a firm enough hand you can make them do it without too much of a fight. I don't know what Mazda did to make their transmissions shift at like 13k with the rotaries but Toyota could take a lesson.

the e351 (much newer transmission) shifts flawlessly at 8k rpm.. the 400hp 2gr is running one. and the newest 6 speeds from the corolla hatch and the GR are just sublime.. like seriously.. fucking best manual shifters i've felt in a modern car
