For those who have issues merging with a V6 Tacoma, I recommend a 4 cylinder Saturn from the early 2000’s as a replacement. Now that’s a powerhouse.

I would imagine that the computer learns driving habits in addition to you burning excess carbon build up at higher temps?

I remember a buddies 1956 vw bug. I think being much younger at the time, I could beat it in a 100 yd dash.

Aztec was ahead of its time. 10 years later it might not have been the massive flop that it was.

uhhh, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. It was neither ahead or before its time.

I think the creators of the Great Wall used the Aztec as inspiration for their monster aliens

Like I said, four-cylinder is not a problem in Bay Area traffic with metering, very short on ramps, and people driving well above the 65 mile an hour California posted speed limit.

I don’t know where it started, but when has explosive acceleration become a must have item with pick up trucks?

Some people on this forum think that if you can’t accelerate to 120 miles an hour on a 400 yard on-ramp, you’re at serious risk for your life.

I’m surprised nobody is bitching about the lateral acceleration numbers. Maybe, just maybe, you don’t need a truck. Maybe you need a sports car.

My first vehicle was 1990 mazda b2200 with a whopping 95 hp. It did struggle at times but I made it work.

People that say that v6 or I4 Tacoma is not powerful enough for “normal” driving, simply don’t know how to drive. No other explanation.

Agreed. My first car was a toyota tercel. Every car/truck since has been a rocket in comparison.

Exactly. I laugh at folks that say modern cars are “slow”.

I might have you all beat. Try a 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel. Did 0-60 in 15 minutes.

My old man had a 1981 Jetta diesel Wolfsburg edition. I think it had like 54 hp. There was a noticeable, and very frightening, power drop when you turned on the AC compressor. He also had a 1983 FJ60 Land Cruiser, which was somewhat faster, however that distinction was an arbitrary one.

I remember those days. I thought my folks 1974 lime green Ford Pinto was a hot rod with that V6 in it. Or my 1967 Dodge Dart 2DHT with it's slant 6 was adequate. Then my 1992 Toyota Truck with it's 3.Slow V6 was great for my needs. But then other vehicles were in the same ballpark. It's all relative. As we know modern cars have become so much more powerful. Toyota products tend to lag behind the curve for those QDR benefits. I'm okay with that personally. I'm guessing others see the substantial power gains by other manufactures and get envious or insist that Toyota follow suit.

Before I retired I did a number of projects for a customer that had a yellow aztec, he loved that thing, and ended up buying another.

No, he was a salesman for musical instruments, and big into home audio entertainment which I did a lot of wiring, and the setup of his components.
