Put some black electrical tape over the warning light. Or a my little pony sticker.

Haven't had an issue in first 8 months... maybe you were cutting it closer than you think OP? Sounds like a good feature to save your butt in the rare instance reflexes fail you.

I’ve had to deliberately drive like a late braking tailgating lane switching soccer mom to get it to go off.

I'm not gonna lie, it was too damned close, I just wish it would have let me deal with it. I was about to give the brakes a good stab myself rather than attempting to match their deceleration. My main gripe is this it overreacted, holding onto the brakes for WAY LONGER than necessary. I mean, even if my read on the situation was completely wrong and intervention was necessary (it wasn't), releasing full brake pressure once you've decelerated 15mph below the speed of the cars ahead of you is just unacceptable.

I wouldn't drive a vehicle that DOESN'T have PCS/ABS/BSM/backup cam, etc. these days, and I DEFINITELY want those systems in the cars around me on the road. Feels like some of y'all would rather have a crash than have a system intervene.

    Agreed.

Nanny-functions get annoying sometimes. But graduating (yes ... it is a "graduation") from a 14.5 ft Corolla to a 17.5 ft Tacoma makes the backup camera critical ... I am even building my "backup skills" so I can pull frontward out of parking spaces. LDA may be useful on multi-hour drives but annoying in slower "attentive" circumstances. BSM and PCS protect me from the idiots in the other vehicles ... including this mangy lot.

My 2021 OR does not have BSM so I still turn my head for a quick check. However, PCS is invaluable IMO.

That’s where the problem lies. And we’ve all been there in one form or another. You could have handled it better. First and foremost, you knowing that there was heavy traffic. So I’m going to guess you sped to get in between which led to your compromised situation.

Every man has to know their limitations, and know the limitations of said hardware that you will be using/working with. I know, easy to say and hard to do. Again, we’ve all been in situations that are hard to read or possibly easy to read which led to an over confidence approach. Thankfully yours ended up okay.

It's on page 239 of the 2019 manual for those interested.

Note that if it is set to OFF it turns back on every time the engine restarts.

On my 2020 it works great. Yes, I had a few false positives that startled me when I first purchased the truck. Now it's seamless. I get a reduction in insurance for having this feature.

I have several Big Block Chevelles I will let go for mid-book Hagerty/NADA if these sorts of things really bother you. I have a 68 with a built motor, a 70 SS 396 with a built 454, and a 70 SS 396 4 speed manual. No PCS, no VSC, no electronic traction control. You get sideways you best know how to get straight cause the vehicle ain't doing shit without driver inputs unless you break something. DM me.

That's exactly what I did. And then when it hit the fan, I was hesitant to brake any harder than absolutely necessary since I had just wedged myself right in front of the poor SOB behind me. I think the key here is the limitation of the software/hardware, but if I'm being honest, I should probably reconsider my approach to these situations. I've been comfortable with momentarily getting way too close in these rare situations (usually someone cutting in front of me) and in reality there's just no need for that; I guess this mentality started because I cringe when people overreact to the smallest disturbances but I've taken it to another extreme, reacting only as much as absolutely necessary. I'll plan and react accordingly in the future rather than cutting my margins needlessly thin. My driving style has worked good enough that I've had no insurance claims in 15 years, but that doesn't mean there's no room for improvement.
I'm still angry about it holding the brakes as long as it did.

Some of us learned to drive before driver aids.

I'm definitely not one of those "back in the good old days" guys either but driving really isn't that difficult that I feel like the vehicle needs to assist in anything. I ride motorcycles so maybe my perspective of being responsible and operating my vehicle is different than others.

Toyota didn’t consider all possible scenarios and use-cases when they put this electronic BS in our trucks!

I mean, I also learned how to drive well before driver aids. No, driving isn't that difficult, but it's hardly foolproof. Variables are infinite - that's why 'self-driving' tech is still so half-assed. People make mistakes. People get distracted. Hell, people sneeze at the wrong time. Shit happens, and none of us have super powers.

I'm not understanding the argument about technology applied in today's vehicles.

I was born in 1966 and got my license at 18.

My understanding of manual reactions is still active in my swivel head...yes, I have a Motorcycle Endorsement on my DE/DL.

I've acclimated to the technology without having to start a thread about the effects of my operating manners while in my Tacoma Sport.

Then to have people add either their agreement with or reply about the positive feedback about the technology shows the dynamics of this forum.

Do people really buy their Tacoma to come here and dump their negatives on their decision making?

We are all entitled to our opinions but evaluating the technology first (reading the manual) is a prerequisite in my opinion.
