    Hi
I have 2008 tacoma 2.7 5speed manual 4WD I am running 235/85R16 M/T with steel wheels most of my driving on the highways I have been reading that the 2.7 doesn’t consume that much of fuel but mine I feel like it does I have changed the spark plugs, engine, belts, fuel filter, fuel filter, greased the driving shaft but still feels something is missing
When the tank is full I drive it the empty light turns on and it takes around 290 - 295 miles only
    Any idea guys?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
When the truck is idling does the tachometer needle bounce a little or is it steady? How many miles on truck?

Your tires are taller than stock. Track your mileage using GPS and compare to the trip odometer. You're probably going further and getting better mileage than you think.

Are you light or heavy on the throttle? Are you driving City, hwy or mixed?

I try not to let my fuel tank get that low, it's not good for the fuel pump.

I don't buy that. Your light comes on at 2-3 gallons. That's not enough to cool the pump? Really? Temperature huh? Do fuel pumps last longer in Canada than Southern California or Arizona? Just what are the cooling properties of gasoline? How many gallons does your pump need? 4? 6? 10?

The light trips at roughly 4 gallons in his truck.

So what MPG are you actually getting?

I have a 2013 V6 MT, I get 13mpg very consistently and calculate it every time I fill up to be sure.
From what I have seen/others report, given my set up + how I drive, everything is fine with my truck.
It is my driving that causes me to get 13mpg vs ~17mpg.

I get the same 'lower' MPG in my car - 20mpg [reality] vs the 25mpg advertised - for the same reasons..

I do better with my manual 4L than I did with the 2.7 manual.

295 miles/tank doesn't tell us anything unless you're driving it till it runs dry every time. When your fuel gauge gets to "E" you could have 1 gallon left, or 5 gallons left. It isn't precise. Figure out miles/gallon and get back to us.

FWIW, my truck is usually getting pretty low somewhere around 275-300 miles for my normal everyday driving. I have gone 350 a few times on road trips. That translates to around 16ish mpg around town and 19-20 mpg on the road in my truck. I have no idea in your truck.

I don't like to push things, when I get to 1/4 tank I start looking for a gas station. I was driving between Chattanooga and Dalton earlier today. An 18 wheeler caught fire and really messed up traffic. It took me over an hours to drive 4 miles. There were 2 cars that ran out of gas in that 4 miles. There was an exit with fuel 1 mile past where the truck was burning. I'm not going to be "That Guy".

The 2.7 doesn't really do much better on gas than the 4.0. Especially a 4X4 with off road tires. That little engine is working harder. You buy the 2.7 to save a few thousand when you buy the truck. Without accurate information on your real mpg's it is hard to say, but I don't think you're far off what I'd expect.

Try cleaning the maf sensor and throttle body with the battery disconnected.

Check if a brake is dragging.

But like others have said your not getting a accurate reading using the odometer with bigger tires.

Also being light on the throttle isn't always best when accelerating. Its a I4 so dont be afraid to rev it up. Try getting up to coasting speed sooner. And the biggest way to boost mpgs is coasting into stops, just learn to ignore the idiots who ride your ass into every stop sign or light.
