Well they may just make the bed wider in the '24. Who knows. But then the complaint would be "well i need a full length bed in my midsized truck". The wanting more for less never ends.

I have a trailer, I just want to be able to haul 2 sheets of plywood home several times a year without bothering with a trailer and remembering my boards for above the wheel wells

I think offering the mid size version of a long bed (6ft) is adequate for a mid-size truck. I think ford missed the mark so far not offering that..yet..

Cool. Don’t like using them when you need to get pallets?

Yeah the whole fitting plywood between the wheel wells has never been a selling point to me. Always have to laugh when manufacturers mention it, like who actually hauls plywood with their trucks these days!? If I do move up to a full-size it would be for the increased towing capacity.

I get that. But just gonna laugh when the price goes up on the '24 and the 'we paid more for this truck and still can't close the tailgate with a piece of plywood" crowd pipe up with their nonsense...lol

Don't hey make hitch mount bed extenders anyway? And maybe the tacoma will have a bed extender built in to that new flat tailgate top lip or edge

True, they make foldable versions too. We kinda got screwed on exterior storage space with the new house, I barely have enough room. Moving up to a 5X10 enclosed, but have to watch the height because it won’t fit in the carport.
I generally tow once or twice a week, guess it is second nature to me. Hauls the fun stuff too. Much easier to load bikes onto it than in the truck bed.

Multiple yes, single like palletized mulch or a materials etc, no. And most of the time I have other things to do and don't necessarily want to drag a trailer around with me all day. Sometimes you pick up some mulch or feed have it loaded with a forklift, spend the day running other errands, come home and take it off the truck later etc. That extra width/payload and towing would come in quite handy with an atv trip for sure.

I like the mid size because its handier in the city and in the woods. I usually keep a fullsize around for heavier stuff, but I have been without one for a couple of years, and until the prices on farm trucks go down, I'll make do with the little guy.

Now the million dollar question on the bed at least, is did Toyota think of that as well....widening the bed, raising payload a significant amount, more towing and offering a crewcab with the 6ft bed, is about the only way I will consider trading my current truck in for a 4th gen, (after the mandatory 3-4 year wait to de-bug of course)

Those things look like an accident waiting to happen. Trailer is just so much easier. Have been towing most of my life with all the earth moving equipment I used to operate, the little piddly stuff I do now is damn near mindless. Couple sheets of ply is nothing compared to towing 40 tons of machinery. Tired of working on shit and building shit, is why I can’t remember the last time I hauled any. Try to stay far away from that stuff now… :)

Yeah can see that. Think if I was doing something like you all the time, would stick a UTE bed on it. So much more practical for loading materials than a traditional pickup bed.

Been to a Home Depot/Lowes or material supply store first thing in the morning during the week lately...Plywood, sheetrock, metal panels etc...you will see all kinds of things being hauled by all kinds of different trucks.

They do make the hitch mounted bed extenders, they work well with long lumber. I use mine for kayaks, most of my kayaks are 12-13 ft so I use the extender when I'm going solo and not taking the kayak trailer.

Those beds are pretty cool, I like to keep my vehicles pretty stock. Although, If I ever committed to building a truck camper rig I would probably consider putting it on a Ute bed or some kind of a utility flatbed for additional storage and utility. A FWC or something similar on a UTE bed would be handy.

Wanted to build something like this, makes so much sense to me. However think I like trailers better. After having a Wildernest on my 1st Gen for 15 years, found out I don’t like have the camper attached to the truck.

if ford can fit a 3.0 TTv6 in their crappy little truck then toyota has no excuse to not put one in their trucks.

at this point i've convinced myself that toyota has no option but to offer a v6

even though im not in the market for a 2024, i'd like to know that in the future when i am in the market that there will be more options in the tacoma
