Don’t have to get up that early anymores… :D :p

…but yes I have, and think to myself so glad I don’t have to that stuff anymore. :D Honesty for what we used to do, full-size pickups were kinda worthless. We did have one tons, but they were 10’ dump beds and box vans. The the fullsizes were good for getting lunch and getting you to the bigger trucks that actually did the real work. :)

Pardon my ignorance, but how is the release of a new Lexus indicative of the release of a new 4Runner?

Asking as a 4Runner will likely be the wife’s next rig. Been holding off due to various reasons, anticipated model refresh being one of them.

I have a feeling the next gen 4Runner isn't far behind the Tacoma.

Think the bed is going to stay the same size. Payload might increase, though looking at the Tundra specs doubtful it will go up a whole bunch. Guess towing will increase.

Bought my 3rd a year and a half ago, no real hurry to buy new just yet, plan is to keep the 3G for 5 years then upgrade, by then the bugs should be worked out of the 4G, though in 5 years, might step up to Tundra, or even a 1 Ton.

I share a similar 'feeling.' BUT the 6th gen has been rumored to be a next year release for at least 3 years that I've been giving half an ear to.

People are probably speculating that because they are made in the same factory.

I fear you may be correct regarding payload and towing. I was a customer for the Tundra and fully planned to buy a Tundra until they released it, between the design and hot mess of issues I am no longer in the market for one. If I found the right deal on a 2nd/2.5 gen I would probably buy it though. I have never been a fan of the tundra styling, but there is no denying the previous generations were reliable machines.

@backcountryj - Pardon me, I got a little excited when I saw that. I didn't Lexus was ready to show the new GX until much later. They are platform mates, so my mind wondered a bit.

@jaxyaks - That too, Tahara plant.

The teaser looks to have blacked/dark trim and matte black fender flares. Special Off-Road model?
and will accompany Tacoma on the 19th? I hope they aren't going to try the same teaser shit again with the GX.

The way Toyota is, just assuming. Guessing they’ll use the same bed we have now too, just different bedside sheet metal.

When I was hawt for a truck camper, payload was a concern, think I prefer trailers instead. While the Tacoma has plenty of towing capacity for what i need, the current engine trans combo isn’t the best. The new Turbo should fix it, moving peak torque to lower in the rpm range should greatly improve it.

Why I was looking at Tundras for the next truck, should tow a heck of a lot better, but the 4G just might be perfect. Part of me wants a huge travel trailer, the other says stay small, stay simple.

Don’t care for the looks of the Tundra either, at the end of the day spend more time inside it than outside looking at it. We all get hung up on looks, myself included, but does it really matter? Comfort on my travels is real important now, grew up on leaf springs and bench seats, don’t ever want to go back to that.

I was super surprised by the Tundra. We have a F150, and GM Sierra at work, but had a new Tundra for product development. The F150 and Sierra felt super big to me and heavy on the pedal. The Tundra felt a lot smaller to drive (more nimble) and felt like a car when hitting the pedal. I will say, the interiors on the F150 (XLT) and Sierra (AT4) felt way nicer than the Tundra (SR5). But, the seats in the Tundra were way more comfortable to me over the others, which goes a long way in my book.

I really liked the interior on the 3rd Gen Tacoma. I thought the dash was rugged looking but also user friendly. While I know the 4th gen will basically be a smaller version of the Tundra interior, I sort of wish they kept the 3rd Gen aesthetics.

@SwollenGoat - here's some forbidden fruit for you:
    https://www.motor1.com/news/665886/j70-toyota-land-cruiser-gets-new-diesel-engine/

I remember seeing that the tacoma's composite bed can bow up from the middle with weight pressed on the bed rails. Toyota must have known about problem because the Tundra's composite bed has aluminum reinforcement beams, I'd imagine the 4G Taco will receive the same treatment. Sadly, I believe like you, that an increase in payload will happen but not near as much as we'd like. 2/3 ain't bad eh.

Does anybody think the Trailhunter will get ARB lockers standard?

Most the guys I see are throwing 35's on and getting 15 mpg and then mentioning how they should have kept their 2nd gen.

There are a variety of reasons for that which include but not limited to…

Getting it to conform with modern crash safety ratings; dubious, because eventually Toyota did install a bunch of airbags in it, and Mercedes can do it with the G wagen.

Fuel economy, standards; plausible. Since Toyota is allergic to diesels in the US, they would have to put a big ass V8 to move this thing because there’s no way in hell the teeny tiny turbo gas engines would get it to budge.

It’s not that comfortable; also plausible. they would have to sell it for at least $50-$60,000 and since this is not a luxury vehicle but it’s selling for a luxury SUV price, you would have a bunch of crybabies whining why it doesn’t come with a luxury leather interior, and 40 inch touchscreen.

The final hurdle would be whether or not to bring one of the pick up variants, the wagon, or the troop carrier to the US.

The pick up is not a traditional pick up and it would frighten and confuse American consumers, the troop carrier is massive and is more like a four-wheel-drive off-road utility van. The wagon would probably be the most likely version, but the people who really want one of these would probably want the wagon the least.

I think if they brought them to the US probably 1500 to 2000 nut jobs, such as myself, would buy one. I personally would want the single cab with a flat utility bed.
