= tacoma 2021 qualified as ''perfectly normal'' by dealer.

Since day 2 it started to knock like a diesel when engine is fully warmed up. Dealer told me it was the vaccum pump for brake assist and that there was no TSB for 2021 engines (only 2016 - 2019)... so id have to wait untill there is one... i insisted and talked to corporate and they finaly changed the pump but the noise is the same...

In the first 15 second i put mic near the vacuum pump and then i bring it near motor and the noise clearly get stronger...

Dealer told corporate it was completely normal and it ended there... what do you think about it ?

I'm certainly not mechanically inclined, but the bottom line is that you don't trust this dealer's service dept. They are telling you it's normal and you disagree. The answer here is to take it to another dealer and get a second opinion. Internet diagnosing of your sound, even if it turns out to be correct, isn't going to convince the current dealer to do another warranty repair. They've already told you there's nothing wrong with your truck. Take it somewhere else.

Why are there multiple TSB for this issue then?

Mine did not. This was a noise I noticed just recently. It’s not the D4S kicking in either. Something else.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like a healthy 2GR-FKS doing its sweet yet typically noisy work to me. Stick a microphone close enough to any Toyota V6 and there’s a good chance you may not like what you hear, yet they operate flawlessly.

My previous 1GR 4.0 technically sounded like metal hammering the internals but it was engineered & ran better than a Rolex.

Thanks for the input! I know they had a recall for the 2nd gens also which is what my service rep told me. I will be going in next Thursday with a loaner setup. It’s within warranty and making noise so the rep wanted to check it out. I have a really good dealer. Best in the PNW.
Also the TSB that was re-released on December included the 2016-22 tacomas for this TSB-0115-22. They however for some reason revised the TSB in MAR this year to exclude the Tacoma, but every other model that has this engine in it. He said regardless they will still inspect it for any issues.

Updated TSB from Toyota dealer. I don’t understand why it took them 6 years to figure out the 2016s had the updated part…
It sounds better and more quiet when I use pennzoil. Got really loud when I had them change the oil at the dealer. They use chevron.
