    https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/...toyota-tundra-trd-pro-comparison-test-review/

Why this link is relevant: The new Tacoma shares its platform with the new Tundra, which not even their top dog TRD Pro beats any of the full size American trucks in the review. The most powerful truck in the contest by far, yet it places in 3rd for how quick it is. (There are several other reasons it places last given in the review, none of which are trivial)

Of course domestic trucks have the full size segment on lock, but now they are really cranking up the heat in the midsize segment.

The new Ranger and GM twins are looking to be very promising trucks. They both offer engines that started life in full size trucks, where the Tacoma is speculated to have an unimpressive 2.4 from their crossovers.

The theory: Obviously we have not seen any official details on the Tacoma yet, but I "fear" that there is a very reasonable chance that new Toyota will bring up 3rd place rather than being class leading.

the new tundra is a swing and a miss, the other 3 are a better option particularly with the V8 and for anyone that actually needs a truck to do truck things. anyone in the market for a full size that is not brand loyal and objectively evaluates the trucks, would not buy the tundra.

as for the G4 tacoma, if toyota still offers an MT and 6-foot bed option as expected, the new tacoma will likely still lead the class provided the new drive train isn't a pos.

the new ranger and colorado are appealing. if chevy offers a 6-foot bed option in the future, and there are no major on-going reliability issues, they'll sell a lot of them.

i am noticing more and more rangers as service vehicles, whereas before i seldom saw anything other than a tacoma. i know ford makes a big effort to sell commercial vehicles so this increase could be because of pricing.

Its going to be interesting for sure. This will be the first time that a brand new Tacoma enters the market alongside a pretty full line up of fresh competition from GM and Ford. Most other years there was not too much of a showing from either. It will be interesting how much or if the sales gap closes in the mid-size segment.

I was super surprised by the Tundra, not in a good way. We have a '21 F150, and '21 GM Sierra at work, but had a new Tundra for product development. The F150 and Sierra felt super big to me and heavy on the pedal. The Tundra felt a lot smaller to drive (more nimble) and felt like a car when hitting the pedal. The interiors on the F150 (XLT) and Sierra (AT4) felt way nicer than the Tundra (SR5). But, the seats in the Tundra were way more comfortable to me over the others, which goes a long way in my book. The other trucks just drive with a more muscular/powerful feel by comparison. The Tundra didn't feel like a truck as much as I wanted it to. If I was a new buyer and test driving them all and needed a truck, I think the F150 would win. But, we all know Toyota is superior when it comes to reliability. I just wish Toyota would up their game with performance, the TRD Pro should be a Raptor competitor, not a Tremor competitor. IMO.

I will only consider port injection or dual injection engine, and Tacoma is the only one like that in mid size market, so in my book there is no competition

Ford sells the most full size trucks, but I'd hardly call them the best. #1 in sales doesn't always mean #1 in quality.

I ended up finding a killer deal on a pro4x Frontier last week, and it's an impressive pickup as well. I like that there is still one naturally aspirated option out there.

I'm a lifelong Toyota guy, but I didn't have the patience to wait for a 4th gen to drop to my price range. I'm excited to see what they come out with though.

A family member has a new Pro4x and loves it. Seems to be a nice truck. I've driven it quite a bit and I like it.

I I have to replace mine, I will look at other brands. I am old enough that long term reliability no longer matters.

Seems most vehicles can make it to 150k+ miles with regular service and minor repairs. Now with mostly work from home, that's 15+ years of ownership for me. That's long enough for me.

I have yet to personally drive any but the new Ram 1500, which is probably the most comfortable in the class. I have ridden in plenty of the new F150s and am always pretty impressed by those too. Apparently, the new Tundras are having turbos going bad, which surprised me as they have had this engine in the Lexus line for a few years. They must have cheeped out on the turbos for these. They are new to the turbocharged engines where Ford has been at it for a long time, so I would probably trust the F150 while the Tundra is still in its early years.

Agreed, from what I could find the 2.4T is dual injected (according to wiki) if that is in fact the engine the Tacoma gets. I have the unrealistic hope that they will introduce a new truck-like engine in the Tacoma rather than pulling the 2.4 from their crossovers.

The T24A may have started out as a crossover engine, but so was the 1st gen Tundra 4.7 as the Lexus 4.0 luxury car engine. Beginnings don't always direct endings. The competition will use that as a flare though.

The only new Toyota vehicle that's direct injection only is Supra, which is a BMW engine. Everything else is either dual or port

If people didn't have a problem with 2GR-FKS (found in sedans, and minivans) in their 3rd gen, there shouldn't be any shunning of T24A in the 4th gen
