Dealership wants $750 to replace idler pulleys and belt

    a serpentine belt can last alot longer than v belts ......just buy one and keep it in the truck

    Same here, but the same still applies when looking at the outer side of a belt vs the inner. Usually numbers are even listed on the outer side.

    Took 5 minutes to change my belt. Start there like others say.

    $750 is pretty typical for dealer jobs.

    Sheesh I had this service done at a local mechanic for 180 bucks last year. At 120K miles.

    Some auto parts stores have loaner tools. (It’s just a long breaker bar, so you have enough leverage on the tensioner.). Take a few ‘before’ pics or use the diagram above. Once you do it, you’ll realize how simple it is. It’s literally a 5 minute job.

    *OEM Mods: Intermittent wipers, Fogs, Keyless Entry, Lomax
    Belt dressing spray is helpful to determine if a squeak is due to the belt or the pulleys (IF you have some on hand, a mechanic did this for me once). If not on hand just replace the belt.

    Glazed belts (shiny on the underside) are not uncommon for smooth belts that are worn and slipping. For ribbed belts it’s typically it’s an age related issue and narrow cracks appear on the ribs.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with using Youtube if you haven’t done work on a particular model vehicle before. I’ve rebuilt an engine, did a lot of my own work in the past. Recently went to youtube for a video on how to replace a faulty accord trunk latch release mechanism, made the job easy and cheap. Man part remained fully functional even after doing so.

    Just replace the belt. The original belt still looks good at 70k. Tossed it in the back. One less thing to worry about.
