I last owned and maintained my Jeep prior to owning a Taco. For at least 6 years I soley ran EBC pads of the front and rear and had immense brakeing performance over standard pads. It looks like EBC just updated their site or added pads for us 3rd gens! Brake dust is about the same as factory pads for us but brake performance should absolutely improve substantially. Pad life time for me was over 40k very hard miles per set keeping in mind that jeep only has 2 pistons for the front calipers. I highly recommend EBC as a replacment!

My last Tacoma pads lasted 70K. Stopped fine. Why would I want to change? Are they half price of OEM?

Stock tacos, oem is most likley fine. Heavier rigs on stock pads, braking distance increases. EBC is kind of like a power stop pad. Both performance pads. Oem in general isn't always the best nor should be treated as such. Heavier vehicles will always require performance based pads to stop in a shorter distance versus oem pads. 40k miles on half the size of pads we use with heavy use is extremely impressive.

Are the stock pads ceramic or semi-metallic? Trying to buy new pads and rotors and unsure of what to go with. Any help is appreciated.

I've used EBC rotors with the toyota oem ceramic pads on my old tundra. I've tried other pads with these rotors, but like the toyota ones best, plus they lasted forever.

To make matters more interesting, factory pads aren't the same as those sold over the Toyota dealer's parts counter.

Any brake pad you buy is going to have to be a compromise in one area or another. I want brakes that clamp down hard cold or hot, I don't care about dust or even some noise. Semi-metallic pads are always my go to.
I would venture to say the OE pads would be the best blend of attributes, but not the best at anything.

Running EBC front disks and green stuff pads on my taco. Just put new EBC red stuff pads and new rotors on the S2000 last week. They replaced EBC rotors and pads from 12 years earlier. Have their pads on several motor bikes as well. Great products. E335B98A-79AB-4228-942F-C9935A449FF7.jpg

You guys racing these things? Ever seen high performance rally cars? Mt Washington hill climb comes to mind they don't even use brake pads just a machined aluminum puck that gets changed all most every race up the hill.

I tried the EBC green pads on my tundra, they stopped fine but wore out sooner than expected, so I went back to the oem toyota ceramic pads. They stopped well, and lasted forever.

Provided everything is working correctly, your braking distance is limited by your tires, not your brakes. You can’t stop faster than your tires can grip the surface you are on.
