I have to agree with OP. I have to hammer the gas pedal to get this truck to respond and the drivers seat is the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever encountered in my life(even with the seat jackers). Love the truck but it wasn’t built very comfortably designed:rofl:

I'm 57 years old and have been driving full size pickups and larger flatbeds all my life. I'm 6' and bought a '23 Tacoma with a moon roof 900 miles away expecting the worst after reading these forums. In reality, other than the 2018 F150 I had, this was the most comfortable truck I've driven on long trips. In fact, the only car I've had that was more comfortable was a 3 series BMW.

No money, all went to truck...
Well at least someone loves Aztecs.

I got the sprint booster for ~$220. It definitely livens up the truck for a reasonable price.

I get it. 3rg Gen forum is Toyota's unofficial complaint department.

I too hate the seating position , and I’m only 5”8. What has been changed on 20 and newer trucks as far as seating is concerned? I’ve had mine 3 years and I’m at wits end with the seat. Any possibility of swapping seats from a 20 or newer? Mine isn’t power

    I like that assessment.

We should trademark it for the impending 4th gen shitstorm.

Everyone is a little different. I think it is extremely comfortable and drove from Naples FL to MN non-stop except bathroom breaks and fuel stops. With a tune mine gets up and goes pretty darn good, impressed actually. Although I don't expect a lot from a truck where as some do I guess.

No way the computer learns driving habits. The automatic transmission is designed to up shift and down shift. That's all the computer is programmed to do.

It’s all perspective, im 6 2 and 230 lbs and I fit comfortably. The gear hunting sucks in cruise control but other than that it’s fine to me. I came from a 2012 Chevy Cruze so…..Tacoma may be slow but at least it doesn’t break every 3 months and accelerates slightly faster than 0-mechanic.

Oh and before this I’ve owned a Tiguan and an rx8 so I am an expert on terribly slow as molasses cars. My GTI was fast at least. It went 0-60-mechanic.

Not having a power drivers seat in these 3rd gen trucks has gotta suck. Took me awhile with the power seat to get it to my liking. Once there its been great.

Sorry, but there is something definitely to these transmissions learning your driving habits to meet the road conditions. No way one can explain why these transmissions operate so erratically when new, then completely change, operating like any normal auto several hundred miles later, other than they have the ability to learn, as some folks never will.

There's probably a break in period where the transmission adjusts to the engine programing. The transmission learning the unique driving characteristics of each individual driver and their Tacoma sounds like the biggest BS story of my life time. This is the only transmission I have ever heard of that does this in the history of automatic transmissions.

There are so many variables like winter fuel vs summer fuel that would change how the truck drives that one would be ever six months. Tunning the truck would also change the driving characteristics.

I won't believe it until Toyota can explain what this transmission does that every other transmission does not do. Nothing not a single word from Toyota Motor Corporation, and 3rd gen production is winding down. I'm calling BS.

I don't think the 3rd gen is a bad truck, and I'm sure the 6spd auto is fine.

I saw the Car Care nut's youtube video onbthe subject and it made no sense.

Toyota should be able to explain how their automatic transmission works in simple terms, that a complete imbecile would be able to comprehend.

Yeah go ahead with the snide remarks that I can't learn. You didn't even explain how the transmission learns the driver's driving habits.

Adaptive transmissions have been commonplace now for years. If the ECU is reset by disconnecting the neg battery cable then the engine maps and transmission shift points will return to the pre set programming. The maps get fine tuned based on data from multiple sensors. In the transmission electronic solenoid triggering times and pattern adjustments can be adjusted by the ECU. This will change the way the transmission shifts so they do in fact learn. If you have owned a third gen you will have seen this process in action and it’s not unique to Toyota, many manufactures use adaptive transmissions.

There are only two driving styles light on the throttle and heavy on the throttle, and most drivers drive both ways. The transmission is still learning how the engine is responding to throttle input not so much driving style.

I tried looking up the term "learning transmission" I couldn't find a definition.

Yea yeah AI telling the transmission how to shift, with no impactful results at the end of the day. I'm still going with it being BS, and that's my opinion.

Has Toyota announced which transmission will be in the 4th gen?

Edit if anything it's mechanically conventional 6spd auto programed to behave like a CVT.
