    The top one looks "cubist" to me ... or at least as I define "cubist" -- contrasting geometric shapes at different angles. On the right piece, vertical striped in the right and horizontal stripes the the left. On the left piece vertical stripes on the ends and horizontal stripes in the middle. Certainly a departure from parallel stripes.

    On the bottom picture, the shape makes up for essentially monochrome. But then "solid <fillin>" is monochrome, so is not by default bad.
