Ya know, more wheels have turned here than in the 4th-Gener Taco's prototype testing. Toyota should hire us!
    (just making some humor.)

I haven't seen the Colorado commercials, but it seems a LOT of auto commercials are bland or kinda stupid in some way today. Don't hate the GM little twins--just those who market them. Toyota, Chevy, & Ford had some of the best in the 80s/90s when the trucks were doing work......well at least they looked like they were. Even when Toyota made the Tundra Big-Boy size in 2007 some of the those were pretty good.

I agree with you. I like Xtra/Access/Extended cabs (with 6' beds) better, to me best of best worlds, some extra inside room, descent bed space and not too big. I hate that every company made the halo trucks DC only. It is what it is.

I'm sure Gov't is why part of why we don't have those anymore. Of course, stuffing 2600# in a shorter and smaller wheelbase & track may not be a great idea overall. I still lust after them though.

Not to burst your bubble, the ProAce is a rebadged Citroen Jumpy! Still would be nice a have middle-sized cargo van state side. Since the Transit Connect & ProMaster City have been axed.

I also lust after the 70 series, however those points are all valid. I've heard a lot of aussies complain the platform is too rigid for some off-roading, as well as way overpriced. The diesel v8's front track is 4" wider up front. (Which Chevy K2500s in the 90s did the same thing--looks awful). I'm sure it rides like a tractor and many Americans would curse the price with the lack of goodies. I'm sure Toyota's business team knew decades ago there was no need to bring it over here. Too much headache.

I wouldn't say Toyota is allergic to diesel in the USA, it's not profitable here. They tried diesel in 80s in a few products with limited success. Then GM screwed everyone with the less-than half-assed Olds 350 family. Of course the Germans had a long run--don't who they paid off lol. Most guys and gals here on TW know that diesels are different by nature and know how to properly run them, the masses do not. In addition, the automotive media blasts the Tacoma's power (or lack of) already, a diesel, although more grunt were you want it, would be slower over all. People to not have patience in this country. Would be nice though, very nice.

I don't know if having paddle shifters in the Tacoma would be any better the regular slapshift. Not to be rude but Toyota's "S" sequential manual mode it hot garbage. And has been the mid 2000s. I have no hopes for it to be better. If they seriously improve it, kinda fun.

It looks like it will be closer to that, maybe even a manual (BIG stretch right there). There's market for lux off road----give AT4X & Defender a run for the money. one can dream............

@Lunar Squirrel -- As mental as the 3.4TT hybrid would be, I doubt it. That might eat into Tundra sales---can't have that. I agree on the front locker, just for competition's sake. I don't off road and make never, but at this time I think Toyota would very foolish NOT to do so. I'm thinking the T24A will be able to make the best of what its got though and If the 10AT gearing is lower than the tundra, it may, may, give the raptor a scare.

@Plasmech -- I'm not saying he's a prophet or anything but, he can only do what his higher ups tell him. The F33A diesel would have much more desirable than the 3.4TT but HQ in Japan said no. and I'm sure they said no to a lot of things. Money is real sadly.

I also notice in some of my other posts that I left out some words, sorry about that my mind is faster than my fingers.

Needs a clutch pedal for me to not equal a slush box. Otherwise feels like a video game.

A sequential dual clutch gearbox is a manual transmission with an automatic mode, and it shifts faster than any foot operated clutch transmission can. Every high end Porsche has a PDK.

Yep, my cayman is a manual but the lower powered dual clutch can outrun me for sure. But the general engagement isn’t as good as my 3 pedal. I however, have been tempted to consider moving to a newer model with a dsg.

I’m actually happy that they still allow you to get some models with a manual transmission just because it’s fun to drive. But it’s getting pathetic how much faster the new PDK models are.

Some of you guys get too hung up on performance. Isn’t really about the speed for me, it is action of timing the throttle, clutch, and shift lever. Do it over a long enough time period it becomes mindless and zen like. I know some of the sport car guys complain how barbaric and clunky the Toyota’s manual trans is, it supposed to be like that, it is a truck after-all.

Something about bouncing down back country road cruising along while rowing the gears without much a care in the world. Looking at the scenery with the windows down smelling the fresh air. Do that on almost a daily basis, however just with an auto now. It is still good, just not the same.

I have a VW Arteon with a DSG right now and I can't say I like it any better than a normal automatic. There's an annoying hesitation off the line in 1st. My 2024 Tacoma will be a manual.

Everyone says this but the 1st gen Tacoma had the most advanced engine in a compact truck at the time. My 96 had the most HP of the segment when new, but maybe they were driven back then by the fact they weren't the top dog in sales.

Still off topic a bit…. But the pdk’s are darn near telepathic. I’m sure it’s the result of Porsche really caring about the driving experience, but mine never let me down. It always went to the gear I wanted. Cruising along at 40-50 and start braking hard and it would downshift and keep the rpm’s at 3k+ waiting to figure out if I wanted to play. I hear the tuning in their cars is a little more snappy and responsive.

Okay, back to tacos…. I went searching nationwide trying to find a lunar rock OR AC with led, bsm, and rcta. Preferred a manual, but would take an automatic. With chip issues, it’s hard to find that combo unless it’s bloated to the gills with everything. Sort of glad I didn’t find one because I’ve come around to the 4 cylinder hybrid concept.

My GTI had a DSG and it was by far the best auto experience. Not sure a DSG is suited for truck work, however.

I don't get the logic here. If shifting is good, is more shifting not more good? :D Ok, in actual stop and go traffic where "go" is less than 20 feet even my left leg gets tired after a while. Short of that it's a fun challenge to coast along in neutral or lug along in first or second as much as possible. Stop and go traffic is God's way of telling you to move someplace else.

Six drink holders within the driver's reach and you're holding a pop?

Still a chance the base engine will be the 2.5 Atkinson hybrid aimed at mileage, not zoom. Guessing that would be very popular among many buyers, especially if they continue to offer a 2WD.

The 2.4T (with or without I-Force) would be the upgrade(s), kind of like the V6 is now.

Just a few more days until we know for sure….

0% chance they don't offer RWD only.

I was thinking this morning on my way to work, the 1GR-FE is NOT a snoozer. My truck (with the Overland Tailor tune), has a decent amount of torque. Do I wish I had more steep hill passing power? Yes. But my truck is my no means underpowered. Not even close.

I suspect that the iForce Max will deliver an addition 100 HP and 150 ft*lb to the road. Assuming that curb weight remains the same or maybe decreases a bit, it should be a fun truck.

Whenever I hear “iForce” my mind goes to “xForce.” I think everyone will find this helpful.

We haven’t had any 2WD availability in Canada for quite awhile, but I thought they were fairly popular in the South.

Doesn’t Ford also offer a 2WD Ranger down there? (4WD only here) Seems like it would be foolish for Toyota to abandon that market.
