Well, I got my plans changed for me. I found out that most of Sequoia National Park is closed due to the fires and winter road damage.
So, for no apparent reason, other than I like the Robert Plant song, I ended up in…

    IMG_4693.jpg

Them Californicators can’t count for shit. I counted more than 29 before the first traffic light.
Anyway, I’ll visit Joshua Tree National Park in the morning since I’m in the neighborhood. Then start meandering my way back to NM.
I’ll have to make another trip out this way later

Bald Eagles are very common now here in PA.
But it may surprise some people to know that Golden Eagles can be seen here too during migration.
The population east of the Mississippi is small compared to further west.

They go north in The Spring from their wintering areas in the southern Appalachians and follow the mountains...
... supposedly all the way to breeding areas in northern Quebec, especially the Ungava Peninsula.
Then they go back south starting in October.

I've seen precisely one, and that was during late October whilst hunting Grouse on Snowy Mountain here.
Birders who want to see one usually go to Hawk Rock during the Autumn migration.
They come down the Susquehanna River Valley to this point, where the river veers southeast.
Then they fly right over Hawk Rock and fly on southwest.
Of course, you can see all kinds of hawks from there as well during migration.
Seeing a Golden though, is a big deal.
