Gritto's First Megaconcert


In the Summer of '73 I was privileged to go to see the Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead.
It was at RFK stadium in DC on a blazing hot day, and the ticket price was $7.
That's right.
Seven bucks

The concert went for at least 12 hours too, with alternating sets.
Things got kinda out of hand very early.
People were bringing coolers in with them and the cops basically gave up.
An acrid yet strangely seductive aroma filled the air

In the late afternoon I got heat exhaustion and a splitting headache, so I went up to the nosebleed seats.
There was a slight breeze there and I took a nap on the nice cool concrete

I woke up after sunset and caught the last few hours.
People were dancing (a lot of them naked).
I have an idea a good many of them were tripping.


Man, those were the days
